Color is a very dark black/reddish brown with a creamy tan head, good carbonation.

Aroma is coffee, chocolate and caramel with fresh wheat toast and some vanilla mingled with a light sweetly floral quality.

Flavor is the same with some fruity sweetness underneath it all. Hops mingle with the toasted and black malt notes perfectly. Plenty of character to keep your interest, yet with a fairly clean, lightly bitter wet/dry finish.

Mouthfeel is meduim but there is a rich creaminess that somehow combines with the dark roasted malts and carries it all through. This is very good.

On tap at the brewery in Pocatello, Idaho.
This arrived with a good head over a near black body.
Smoke, toffee, vanilla and chocolate in the admirably complex aroma.
Flavor: lightly bitter finish after some sweetness up front. Sweet dark bread with some light spicy hop flavors.
Creamy smooth, medium-full body.

Had on tap at the brewpub May 2008. If I recall correctly, the chalkboard over the bar described this as a cream stout, but the brewery's web site and the BA style make no mention of this.

This was the best of the nine or so beers I tried - the only one I ordered a full pint of after trying the tasters, and the only one that would hold its own on a broader stage.

Very nice black pour, brown highlights with a medium brown head. Fine bubbles of consistent size. Aroma is malty and sweet, notes of chocolate. Taste is very well integrated with the aroma; no off-notes or missteps, but lacks the last bit of complexity of some of my favorite local stouts from Northern California. Texture is definitely creamy, but could use just a little more body - borders on porter-like.

Not a world-beater, but definitely a good beer - if you find yourself in Pocatello, Idaho, make a special stop to try this one.

Pour: opaque black/deep red with a tan, frothy head that had small bubbles, retained well, and left a bit of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Lactose sweetness, coffee, chocolate malts, and the faintest bit of hoppiness underlying it all.

Taste: Big wallop of vanilla sweetness up front, which gives way to a semi-sweet chocolate malt/toffee taste with underlying hints of dark fruit and coffee. Finishes with a light hop bitterness. Delicious.

Mouthfeel: Medium-to-full, creamy, and with low carbonation. Smooth as velvet.

Drinkability: Easy to sip, goes down well, but it's very filling.

Final Notes: One of my favorites from PVB. Have it about once per week. Goes well with just about all the different food pairings they offer.

Draught @ pontneuf- pours thin and dk dk brown with a nice tan head...aroma is toasty cocoa and lightly roasted grain...flavour is similar, a touch of sweetness and a bit thin on the end, but a nice sweet stout that I’m glad I sought out...

Got to try this again recently...more roast and chocolate, more well integrated than I remember, tasty beer.

Sample @Hoptober Freshtival. Black and creamy, silky smooth, some sweetness, but mostly roast grain bitterness. Adequate beige head. Nice look and feel, average aroma and taste.

A: opaque, dark brown with ruby highlights. a brown head that faded quickly.

S: a nice dark chocolate aroma. some sweetness. there is roasted malt, toffee, and hints coffee.

T: just like the aroma. dark chocolate, toffee, roasted malt and some coffee. starts out with a subtle sweetness and then get bitter like roasted malt and dark chocolate are.

M: medium with medium carb. smooth and creamy.

O: a good offering. a good dessert beer.

Growler purchased at the brewery in Pocatello, poured into a New Belgium globe.

A: Dark and nearly opaque, with slightly transparent shades of brown at the edges...decent head and lacing considering the carbonation of an old growler.

S: Dark malt with hints of wort or sweet mash...charred earth, roasted malt, coffee, hints of smoke, maybe a touch of caramel.

T: Lots of malt here, smooth and creamy...subtly sweet...hints of smoke, coffee grounds, burnt toffee, hints of a grassy hop.

MF: Medium bodied, smooth and creamy with low carbonation...does kind of have a 'satin-like' feel.

O: A nice drinker, definitely my favorite of everything I've tried from Portneuf. This begs to be paired with ice cream or something sweet.
