VT Ale House is a great place for beers. They have a well rounded selection and are constantly rotating in new offerings. Food is excellent and free popcorn to snack on so you'll imbibe more. They have a cool little "library" room with wood burning fireplace. Lots of TVs too so it's a good place to watch a game. Some of the higher ABV beers can be as much as $9 which is a bit much in my opinion.

I live in Vermont and enjoy checking out different beer places. I really enjoyed the VT Ale House. Good selection of beers for the price, considering it's in Stowe, where you'll pay top dollar for everything. I definitely will visit again. Enjoyed Heady Topper there with a fantastic tasting flatbread pizza.

For being a Vermont tavern , the place had very little local beer either on tap or bottle/can. When there are loads of local places why does the menu get loaded with Green Flash and Mass. .... Not in the same league as the Waterbury joints. Also the service is extremely slow. Maybe in time they will figure it out!

This particular trip, I was staying at a hotel in Stowe for a change, and after a day full of my usual stops, I decided to hit up this place, as it was very close to the hotel, and a quick online scan seemed to indicate that their taplist was decent, even though there were no specifics on their site (aka a FB page). Well, I guess my main mistake was not turning around and walking out as soon as I stepped in. The atmosphere was basically like a glorified sports bar (with an obvious leaning towards skiing), the crowd was loud, obnoxious, and extremely...hmm, I'm thinking of a more site-friendly synonym for "douchey," but it's not coming to me, so I'll just stick with that. People were getting way too drunk and still getting served, and getting more obnoxious as they continued.

But still, I made the choice, so I stuck with it and bellied up to the bar. The bar was well-staffed, even for the volume, but the service was pretty lousy. I was greeted pretty fast and given a beer list, but then after about 10 minutes passed without a second or even first glance from the bartender, I had to flag down another one just to get a drink. I ended up ordering food at the same time, just in case this one wandered off too. And it was a good thing I did, because yeah, I didn't see her again until I flagged her down for my check.

As far as the tap list goes, it was pretty decent. Can't really complain, as they had some good local stuff (think more Long Trail, Lost Nation, Otter Creek, as opposed to HF, Alchemist, etc.), and a few good selections from other craft breweries, though of course a large portion of the taps went to macros and the "bigger" micros. I ended up getting a Heady Topper in a can, as there was really nothing on tap that was drawing me in.

Food was okay, nothing really great. I went with a flatbread, which seemed pretty intriguing from the menu description, but it ended up being pretty uninteresting, and tasted like a frozen pizza they popped in the oven to thaw out. Overall the prices were decent and pretty much on par.

Well, by the time I had gotten through 1/3 of my flatbread, and my HT can, I had had about enough of the place, and I settled up. I can't see myself ever going back to this place again.

Service was great. Went there on vacation for 4 days, went to a lot of different restaurants / bars. We went to this one twice!! You HAVE to get a roast beef sandwich they are fantastic and fresh. They had Heady Topper too which was nice.
There is a sign behind the bar which reads "Heady Topper?" and under that is either Yes or No.
You can also buy a "Staff Appreciation" round of beer for the cooks and your server for $25. Kind of a fun idea!
