Pours pale amber with a small head.
Nose shows light malt and soft spicy, floral and lightly fruity hops.
Similar flavours, some biscuity malt, more spicy, herbal and floral hops.

330ml brown bottle purchased in Auckland. Poured initially without the yeast sediment.

Pours a rather clear, but pleasantly bright golden hue, with a large-bubbled, filmy head that settles where it may. Body has a little heft to it, surprisingly, and it holds a very fine bead of carbonation. Minimal lacing. Looks decent without being spectacular.

Nose is clean and bright, initially with a slight skunkiness, although this disappears very quickly. Under it is a mild but present Kiwi hop character, giving it a touch of crispness, above a pronounced neutral malt basis—this is slightly bready, and a touch thicker than I would have expected. Again, it's okay without being great.

Taste is similar, although here there's a crispness along the middle and back of the palate which delineates the malt nicely, ensuring it doesn't get too aggressive. Indeed, the hops provide just the right balance, while maintaining a slight build-up on the tongue. It means it tastes better as it goes along.

The feel does have a little more weight than expected to it, but the crispness of the hops, and the right level of carbonation still provide a budding sharpness. It's pleasant.

Overall, by the end of my tasting I was digging it. It's fairly neutral and a little bit by-the-numbers, but it has a refreshing edge to it by the end that means that I'd reach for another one after finishing the first. Solid stuff.

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle with a decent craft label. A good package for a small operation. Bought from Leura Cellars.

Appearance: pours a vibrant light straw yellow with fine carbonation across the profile. A decent half-finger white head drops to a solid ring with limited lacing.

Aroma: a refreshing aroma of tropical fruits - pineapples predominantly - with a slightly tart stone fruit behind. Some floral hops also.

Taste: quite different to the aroma due to the spiky carbonation - the emphasis is more on the stone fruits, with an over-riding tart floral funk that almost ruins the beer. Pretty awkward.

Aftertaste: the funk hangs about but changes to a more mellow, enjoyable state. A bit of sweetness from those tropical fruits do turn up.

Mouth feel: the feel is light- to-moderate which is fine, but the carbonation is a bit too high and too sharp.

Overall: my second beer from Parrotdog, and the second time I have said, this is an interesting beer, but overall pretty awkward and not well combined. It would be okay for a wild card every now and then, but certainly not for AU$120 a case. I have 2 more Parrotdogs to go before deciding to leave them behind - let's wait and see.

330ml bottle poured into tulip

A - gold, slightly cloudy, trace of fine sediment, pours a frothy white head, about an inch thick, moderate retention

S -hay, grassy malts, some pepper, lemon, overall earthiness to the aroma as the beer warms a bit

T - bread malts, noticeable lime zest in the beginning and middle, a yeasty sourness towards the finish.

M - chewy texture, low carbonation, medium to full bodied for style.

O - average - it is refreshing , but not a big fan of lemon/lime flavours, and the carbonation is a bit low for me. low hoppy bitterness - more of a blonde ale than an APA.
