Purchased and consumed on North Island, NZ.

Pours clear, dark, mahogany brown with a large, creamy and durable tan head. Excellent lacing.
Very lightly smoky in the aroma, there’s a little more smoke in the taste and aftertaste. Peat smoked grain and hints of raisins and vanilla, but the flavor seemed a bit off with a hint of butter and a touch of sour too.
Feel: creamy smooth; very soft, making the medium body seem pleasingly light.
O: A very fine Scotch Ale with superb looks and feel.

Pours a deep red copper hue with a two finger head and a touch of lacing here and there, the smell is fruity hops with a touch of smoke, the mouthfeel is medium bodied with above moderate carbonation and the tastes are pretty pedestrian for a scotch ale with hints of smokey peated malts but overtook with a big fruity hopfest which also rounds out the finish and overall something I wouldnt buy again and not very true to style cheers.

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle with a decent craft label. A good package for a small operation. Purchased in New World Wellington during Beervana.

Appearance: pours out a dark red-brown hue with limited visible carbonation. A one-finger tan head drops away to a solid ring fairly quickly. Looks like a decent Wee Heavy.

Aroma: the aroma is quite soft, and to be honest a bit boring. Some fruit with a touch of smoke and peat.

Taste: again a very light flavour of smoke and some fruits. Pretty boring, this really needs a lot more oomph.

Aftertaste: drops away pretty quickly - really not much to this one.

Mouth feel: here is the main problem - moderate in carbonation with very little carbonation. This beer really needs more carbonation to bring some more flavour forward.

Overall: breweries like Matso's, Moon Dog and Monteith's are a bit hit or miss - for expensive breweries, some of their beers are ordinary, some fantastic. Parrotdog is even more expensive and as yet I have not had a single decent brew from them. Sleuthhound is the fifth I have tried from Parrotdog and whilst it isn't an awful beer, it is something just as bad - incredibly boring. Considering the average Parrotdog beer costs between AU$100 - AU$140 in Australia, the price is truly unacceptable. As this one is a Wee Heavy and is 6.6%, I would assume it to be at the top end of that scale. This is the last Parrotdog beer I will buy for a while - they are not good enough even if they were half the price.
