Got in a trade with beergoot. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, unreadable can dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark bread/crust, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome hop/char bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.1%. Overall this is an excellent foreign stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/charred/drying finish. Nicely soft feel, and not overly bitter/charred for the style. Awesomely well rounded English malt complexity; with great earthy hop presence/balance, and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness with lingering hop/char bitter dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressively spot on style example.

Dark, roast notes. On the drier, bitter side. Would love to taste a BA version of this. Dark motor oil in color. Arguably the best stout made in Colorado Springs.

Appearance: Poured a very dark brown, almost black color, with a very light head that faded to a thin film
Smell: Great coffee and some slight dark chocolate and roasty malt aromas.
Taste: Lots of espresso flavors up front, with some dark roast malt flavors on the back end.
Mouthfeel: Pretty thin for a double/imperial stout, but creamy and nicely carbonated.
Overall: Very nice stout from an up and coming brewery - love what these guys are doing.

my first beer from this colorado springs operation is a pretty good one, maybe somewhere short of imperial, but definitely a bigger stout with a ton of roasted barley and a dense viscous mouthfeel, but still plenty of carbonation. the session imperial stout maybe, if you can imagine. it pours an earthy dark brown from the tap with a little haze and a soapy lighter brown head. the nose is bitter char and booze, with a hint of bakers chocolate and stale coffee in there too. the flavor is a little more cohesive, with the dark roast running all the way through but the expected bitterness in the finish being tempered by maybe some oats, there is a mild sweetness there and it finishes quicker than anticipated. the alcohol stings a little, and shows through maybe more than it should for its strength, but there are those who would argue that its part of the style to include that, so i cant fault it much. not overly distinct or far reaching with this one, but a well made winter brew. i have to go check this place out.

The beer appears jet black but with only a very thin tan head; minor lacing clings to the glass. Smell emits a strong coffee scent mixed with a deep roasted grain component. Charred grains and bitter chocolate flavors; coffee grounds. Medium bodied, semi-dry finish.
A pretty respectable stout packed with strong roasted grain and coffee notes.
