Bottle: pours a hazed brown with ruby highlights - Aroma is musty, spicy, pungent....flavor is fruity, musty, a tad sweet...wet finish with little hop balance,,,not my cup of tea.

A great beer, following the standards of the great Belgian beer. A very good Christmas beer, made with great professionalism and tradition. All a pleasure to be able to have such a great beer.

Dark brown in color with a foamy light brown head. The aroma is intense....spice, malt, Belgian phenols, lots of dark malt scents. The taste is malty, spicy, and very warming. Lots of booze, along with spice...the label says thyme, although I'm not sure that I get that specific flavor. Instead, I get a lot of peppery notes. The body is full. Interesting.

330 ml bottle, served cold and served into a Gouden Carolus chalice. $3.95 CDN from the LCBO.

Appearance - dark brown in color, small half finger of off white head and some haze. Some lacing left behind as the head dwindles.

Smell - yeasty notes, lots of malt with a Complex brown sugar and honey combo. Possibly some fruits like cherries and raisins in there. Aromatics are nice but not pronounced.

Taste - plenty of malts, with delicate balance of caramel, brown sugar and toffee with some spices mixed in for good measure. Signature Belgian yeast shines through with a Little bit of alcoholic harshness.

Mouthfeel - smooth, full yet sufficiently light to make this pretty drinkable. Carbonation is high as with most of these high ABV Belgians.

Overall - I don't know, maybe I wasn't in the right mindset, but came away thinking this was good but certainly not great. Highly drinkable but otherwise just another Belgian. Expected more.

A way over-carbonated, bloating Belgian ale that has no distinguishable taste and is a disappointment. Has almost no nose at all and the entire bottle is a watered down mess, with only a hint of toffee and banana. But it is the carbonation that makes this one a no-go brew.

330 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours a dark brown color with a rich mahogany edges, tan colored full creamy head that did not last, slight lacing, lots of tiny bubbles streaming up the side, nice appearance.

A: Lots of deep dark fruits like plums, dates, black cherries, figs, touch of spice and clove, Belgian yeast, banana, rye bread maltiness, nice aroma.

T: Like the nose there's dark fruits, toasted brown sugar, touch of spice and clove, light bitterness, finish has lots of banana and lots of Belgian yeast as well, begins subtle then burst with flavors in the middle and finish, alcohol is well hidden for 10% ABV, great taste.

M: Lots of carbonation on the mouthfeel, smooth, dry finish, leaves a slight stickiness on the palate, very easy on the palate for 10% ABV.

O: An exceptional beer with lots of flavor and aroma, great mouthfeel, way too easy to drink and could lead to trouble, definitely going to enjoy the remaining beers from the four pack.

Had on draft in a N'Ice Chouffe tulip with an abundant light brown head which dissipated slowly over the dark brown liquid. Smell was malty fruits and spiced with a matching slightly boozy taste and feel. Can't imagine this not being on a lot of people's favorite holiday beer lists.
