Notes / Commercial Description:
The HOUBLON CHOUFFE was brewed for the first time in 2006. It is an ‘Indian Pale ale’ type of beer, with a harmonious balance between a marked bitterness (three types of hops are used to make it) and a pleasant fruitiness. The HOUBLON CHOUFFE is unfiltered, and re-fermented in the bottle as well as in the keg.

Pours from 750ml capped bottle a clear bright sunshiny gold with a huge billowy head of foam and lots of sticky lacing. After the first pour, it becomes cloudy and there's some sediment from the yeast in my glass and..that head of foam lasts right through to the end of the session. Great looking brew to say the least.

The smell has big herbal hops upfront along with healthy doses of yeast, bread, and some malt sweetness.

The taste on first sip give me lots of hoppy deliciousness. Herbal hops and some grass followed by some citrus and other fruit and yeast. Further sips give me more of the malt...more bread and some honey and it makes for some nice balance but this one is still all about the hops though, I don't find it all that bitter. It's more of a subtle bitterness and quite frankly, it's tickling my palate. The mouthfeel is nice and full and creamy and the carbo is lightly done and that makes for a very highly drinkable beer that demands antoher sip and another and another. 9%abv? Where art thou? I sense none in the taste, none during or after the swallow. Man, this is so smooth and easy drinking, it's scary. It fiinishes slightly bitter and it leaves a long and enjoyable aftertaste. Wonderful stuff!

Bottom line: The label says it uses Amarillo, Tomoahawk, and Saaz Hops and boy do they work well together in this Belgian IPA. I would buy some more at the drop of a hat! I highly recommend
this world class brew!!
