Upon pouring, it gives a light citrusy fragrance. Appearance is inviting with a tannish-white head, some nice lacing. and a deep orange/amber color.

Mouthfeel is solid with crisp carbonation. Slight grapefruit notes lead off followed by a strong earthy malt backbone and a citrus rind bitterness.

The low ABV makes this a really easy drinking beer, while the flavor profile is that of a beefier IPA. A real gem from a small local Ohio brewery.

Bottle, no visible date. DFH Tulip.

A: amber with one finger beige head that quickly fades to a thin skim. Lots of carbonation. Lacing was fair.

S: sweet, malty and hoppy nose. Tropical and grapefruit, but juicy sweet above all else.

T: much drier on the palate than the nose suggests. Hoppy and slightly toasted malt arrival - floral and tropical papaya, with grapefruit rind, but underneath it all is this toasted malt that adds depth to everything. This is really good, but one of the oddest tasting IPAs I've ever had. It's almost like a hopped up classic pale ale.

M: lighter end of medium, with lower carbonation and an astringent finish. Not my favorite mouthfeel; doesn't have the refreshing thinness or the fluffy aleyness I like.

O: this is not your run of the mill IPA; it is distinctive, and for that it is worth trying. For my part, I could see myself drinking this regularly as an occasional hoppier pale ale. However there is a little off note in the finish, and it is pretty astringent, which are detractions for me.

If you drink this cold you'll rate it around 3. Let it warm up a bit, and you'll give it 4+.

Another great IPA from Homestead. I highly recommend going to the brewery and trying any of their beers/ales. They are currently doing mostly IPA's, so it would be hard to go wrong with any of their offerings. VERY smooth & flavorful. There are so many BAD IPA's out there, but these guys have figured it out!
