Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate, with a cocoa-powder colored, half finger width head. Fair retention before reducing to a mostly barren surface and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Fair lacing, with a few broken lines and some spotting.

Smell - Chocolate, roast and some dark fruitiness before some astringency found at the tail end of the aroma.

Taste - Deep notes of dark and semi-sweet chocolate, molasses and dark fruit. Hints of roast creep in near the finish, but is met by light, honey-like sweetness, which become more prominent as the brew warms.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation, but there's also a fluffy creaminess to it before a light, dry stickiness in the finish. Hides the 15.2% amazingly well. I would have guessed this around the 9-10% mark had someone asked me blindly.

Overall - Remember that scene in Pulp Fiction when Vincent Vega is curious about Mia's $5 shake and tries it? This beer conjures up that scene for me. This is pretty Goddamn good but I don't know that it's worth what I paid. Too much sweetness for me to love it completely; not enough dark, roasted depth. That said, I'll gladly buy a can of the forthcoming 'malt balls' and 'BA' variants in hopes that I like them better... but mostly because I'm a dope for imperial stouts.
