Served in a cervoise at Tap House - Des Plaines.

After all of those Lips of Faith offerings, I figured I'd finish off my visit here with a local (-ish) black IPA. It pours a clear midnight sienna topped by a finger of slightly wan khaki foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, treacle, grapefruit zest, and pine resin. The taste brings in more of the same, the grapefruit melding nicely with the roast and the resin being offset by the treacle (and vice-versa). This isn't to say that there isn't any flavor-clashing going on here, just that it's muted than usual. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a pretty nice black IPA. 'Nuff said.

22oz bottle hand-numbered 164
Pours a dark brown into a pint glass with a light tan head which quickly dissapates.
Malt bready sweet aroma is carried into the flavor. No alcohol burn, but it's clearly there.
Nice creamy medium feel makes for easy drinking.

Would it be too much to rest this in a barrel? Single malt, rum, what about olives?

Very dark brown with substantial 2 finger head, no lacing. Malty nose covered by hops. Hop bitterness takes over but the black malts are still up front. Heavy mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
