I picked up a can of Griffin Claw's Platinum Blonde Lager last week for $2.09 at the Lager Mill. All the three of the canned beers I have tried from this brewery have been solid and I'm interested to see how this Lager turns out, so lets see how it goes. No visible canning date, Poured from a tall 16oz can into a imperial pint glass.

A- The can looks pretty nice, it's got a look to it that's similar to those old fighter planes of WW2 with a pinup girl painted on it, I like it and I think it's fairly eye catching. It poured a very clear slightly darker yellow color that took on more of a golden and slight burnt orange like color when held to the light with two fingers worth of bubbly white head that died down to thin ring that faded to nothing and it didn't leave an lacing behind. This was a nice looking Lager and it's what I would expect from the style.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness followed by the malts being the first to show up and they impart a grainy and slightly biscuit like aroma with some sweet malts showing up the most. Up next comes a light fruity aroma that I think is from the yeast and there's seems to be no noticeable hop aromas. This beer had a nice aroma for a Lager and it's what I would expect from they style.

T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness followed by the malts still being the first to show up and they impart those same malty aspects that I got in the aroma with the sweet malts still sticking out the most. Up next comes that same fruit aspect, but it sticks out a little more than it did in the aroma and i still think it might be from the yeast. On the finish there's no noticeable hop flavors with no bitterness and there's a grainy, slightly fruity yeast and sweet malt like aftertaste that faded quickly. This was a nice tasting that Lager that seemed to taste pretty inline with the style.

M- Smooth, clean, not that crisp, on the thicker side of being lighter bodied with a lower amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel was decent, but it wasn't as crisp as I like my Lagers to be.

Overall I thought this was a decent beer and a slightly above average example of a American Lager, it had pretty much all the aspects that I expect from the style, but it didn't have any aspect that came off as really well done and there wasn't anything that made it memorable either. This beer had decent drinkability, it was smooth, clean, not that crisp, not filling and the taste didn't do the best job at holding my attention, I think one pint can is enough for me and I really don't have the urge to drink another one in a row, but if I didn't care about taste I could probably drink a few of these. What I liked the most about this beer was how true to style it was, there wasn't anything fancy tricks with this beer, it was just a solid straightforward Lager. What I liked the least about this beer was the mouthfeel, it wasn't bad, but it lacked the higher carbonation and crispness that I have come to expect from the style. I might buy this beer again if I'm in the mood for a Lager, but that doesn't happen that often. I might recommend this as a solid Lager, but I don't think it's a must try. All in all I thought this was a solid American Lager, sure it was a little plain and dull, but it also was pretty clean and it didn't have any off flavors at all, so I think it falls right in the middle. This isn't my favorite Griffin Claw beer or my favorite Lager and it might just be my least favorite Griffin Claw beer. Solid work guys, but I don't see what makes this a Platinum Blonde Lager as apposed to just a regular American Lager.

From Trent yet again!

Pours a clear and bright golden color, small head of foam that quickly disappates.

It smells fruity, lightly hoppy and malty.

There's a very grainy malt flavor up front with some hint or some hoppy bitterness that never fully materializes. The grain adds some sweet notes but not like you get from corn.

Adequate body and carbonation.

Overall, a decent brew.
