Thanks to FlintB for this bottle, part of a trade that brought, perhaps, a record amount of A+ bottles into this humble house. 22 oz. silver-waxed bottle split with my wife.

First, bless old Griffin Claw for putting one of those string-things in to get the wax off, reducing my chance of injury by close to 100%. The beer is very dark with a red tinge all the way through & very little head. Nose is light, especially for the style, just a touch of coffee & bourbon. Light.

Flying Buffalo Coffee Bourbon Stout – Barrel Aged is one of those stouts that’s exquisitely balanced. There’s coffee, there’s stout, there’s malty sweetness, & to finish it off, there’s a solid shot of bourbon that’s vanilla adjacent. Touch of alcohol. Full. Extremely drinkable. Like, hose me down in this drinkable.

No fancy footwork here, just a master-level class in brewing & barrel aging. As good as Bourbon County Coffee in its prime – this is magnificent. I need more Griffin Claw!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 11/2015. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut/dark fruit, and oak/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark roasted coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut/dark fruit, and oak/roasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut/dark fruit, and oak/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly slick/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged imperial coffee stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

A - Pours pitch black with a one finger tan head. Tons of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is coffee, vanilla and bourbon.

T - The taste is big coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, oak and bourbon.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel with a soft dry finish.

O - Great beer. This tastes just like a bourbon spiked sweeter cold brew. Very drinkable at 12%.

Poured from 22 oz bomber. I've had the regular griffin claw 2015 and 2014 BA coffee stouts and the Great Lakes version is excellent. The coffee in this version is more pronounced and smooth, not bitter at all. I'd say this is one to seek out and try. They bottled a limited amount but can probably obtain through trade with MI traders. This is one of better BA coffee stouts I've had in a while, recommend trying.

Poured into a tulip it has a pitch black body and a quarter inch beige head of dense foam. Smell of fudgey chocolate, fresh roasted coffee, vanilla, bourbon, blueberry, good amount of oak, slight roasted malt, and some espresso. Taste is much the same with a big blueberry coffee flavor, sweet bourbon, lots of vanilla, milk chocolate, oak and roasted malt on the end. Mouthfeel is full as well as body with a moderate to full carbonation. Overall the best rendition of their Flying Buffalo to date. I've had their infected early releases (unaged and aged unfortunately for the latter) their other coffee releases and this is hands down the best release. I prefer it over Big Bad Baptist's releases (they had one in particular that had a blueberry flavor imparted by the coffee much like this one) purely on it's complexity versus overwhelming amounts of coffee.

Awesome beer. Literally this is the closest thing I've had since Founders KBS. It's got great flavor and not very overwhelming. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the taproom as well. Very underrated brewery and verrrrrryy underrated BBA. A must try!
