25.4 oz. bottle poured into "stout glass" (vertical tulip)
(batch #5, brewed in 2015)

L: crystal clear red-copper ... has enough brown in it to call it "copper", but it's mostly amber, relatively dark, SRM 13-15; almost no head, looks flat on the pour though there is a little bit of activity in the glass, just enough to form a very thin ring of offwhite/beige foam

S: earthy sweet potato, slightly sweet light malt, pumpkin and apricot

T: earthy pumpkin, a tiny pinch of cinnamon in the aftertaste; no hop flavor of any kind; the earthy notes taste more like raw pumpkin than anything hoppy, and it's not strong enough to call it bitter; not much sweetness

F: soft, slick, relatively light, the bare minimum of carbonation, though it's enough to give it some body

O: Sleepy Hollow is a true pumpkin ale, not a mix of spices and additives, so 5 Stones gets points for brewing an authentic beer; that means, however, that it tastes like real pumpkin, which for my money is bland and not very tasty; the malt hasn't overtaken this beer, so fans of real pumpkin ales should love it

From a bottle, pours a murky dark orange, whispy light brown head.

Nose is toasty, pumpkin, sunflower seeds, brown sugar a little bit of smoke. Flavor is nutty and pumpkin, a little bit of spice, a bit acidic. The finish is a sweet smoke (like sweet & tangy bbq aftertaste). This is ok, but nothing to write home about.

Truncated notes below:

Pours a white creamy head of nice full even consistency. Thick enough, with a coating appearance. Sustains well, lasting about 5-6 minutes without leaving any lacing on the sides of the glass.

Body is a murky hazy copper with brown hues. Floating yeast is visible.

Overall, it looks subpar for a pumpkin ale.

Sm: Faint pumpkin gourd, pumpkin pie spices (nutmeg, allspice, clove), and copper malts.

T: Pumpkin gourd, pumpkin pie spices, cinnamon, copper malts, and minimal hopping. The cinnamon and malts coupled together lend it too much sweetness, and there isn't enough pumpkin - or any authentic pumpkin. I suspect something like puree was used instead of actual pumpkin gourd.

Mf: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied. Too thick for the style and flavour. A biteen syrupy. Overcarbonated. Unrefreshing.

O: Lacks a harmony of texture to taste. I don't get any smokiness in terms of the pumpkin, or any authenticity. It's overcaramelized and too sweet, lending it an imbalanced unpleasant taste. Not a beer I look forward to finishing the bottle of. A swing and a miss from 5 Stones.

A pumpkin beer that doesn't rely on heavy amounts of clove or cinnamon to add flavor. Dark amber color with wispy head and lace. The aroma has faint amounts of caramel and pumpkin. Medium body, possibly leaning toward the heavy side. The flavor accentuate the pumpkin. While there is a bit of caramel, the pumpkin is the biggest contributor. A subtle amount of smoke to go along. Rich, creamy mouthfeel with carbonation on the low side. A must try for someone who wants a pumpkin (and not a pumpkin pie) beer.
