Our take on this centuries old style employes the humble oat to promote a smooth and creamy mouthfeel while chocolate malts and roasted barley bolster brilliant tones of cocoa and coffee

On tap at Alibi Room, Vancouver.
Ruby brown with tan film. 3.75
Chocolate and goji berry. 4
Tart brown malt, kola, a surprising whack of phenolic smoke, raisin, and some raggedy branch. 3.75
Snappy, lt-med, some cling. 4
Carob more than cocoa and lots of tart dark fruit. Porter in the body. But also a weird peat thing that shouldn't come from just roast and may or may not be intentional. Not as easy as “oat” would suggest. 3.75

So many porters so lame. This one so good. Also tried the Four Winds Saisson. Both definitely worth a try!

Served On-Tap
A — Pours a rather light and translucent brown hue into the glass. A creamy oat colored head sits on top and leaves some spotty lacing along the inside of the glass.
S — Light notes of oats, chocolate, and munich malts, just smells chewy. Light chocolate aroma as well.
T — Much like the nose, though a bit sweeter and a little bit thin. Notes of chocolate, oats, and sweet malts.
M — Light in body, high carbonation, quick almost watery finish.
O — Good overall, just a bit light and mild.

Pleasant scratchy grain flavor, like it has some rye in the brew. Modest foam and plenty of lacing in the monic. Dark roast with a moderate blackened taste. Just a pleasant sweet note and a bitter finish. Supposed to be 25 IBUs but it's plenty bitter for the aftertaste.
Excellent flavorful quaff. I like the balance of charred grain with the malty sweetness. Sort of fruity, like there's a touch of cider. On tap at the brewery south of Vancouver.
