Golden yellow. Some haze. Minimal carbonation. Small head, despite a fairly aggressive pour, that receded quickly to a patchy rim. Looks more like a lager. Disappointing.
Lemon. Hint of banana. Underwhelming.
Lemon detergent. Unappetizing.
Watery. A little carbonation on the sides of the tongue. Unpleasant aftertaste.
I don't know what happened to this beer but it is not right for a hefeweizen. No cloves, no rich mouthfeel, no foaming head. The best before is 10/2016 so it's not out of code. Downright weird. Did someone forget to add the wheat?

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2014. Acquired a while back from Trembling Madness in York. A North Yorkshire take on the famous Bavarian wheat beer.
Poured into a straight pint glass. Bottle conditioned, and a bit of a gusher. A hazy golden hue with fine sediment and plentiful carbonation. Produces a massive head of frothy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thick surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of fruity yeast esters with hints of banana, mild bubblegum, faint clove, spice, wheat, grain and an underlying earthiness. A bit dry but not bad.
Tastes of fruity yeast and wheat, with a lingering dry finish. Notes of banana, bubblegum, spice, faint clove, wheat, husks, earthy yeast, stewed leaves and a touch of cardboard. Slightly harsh in the background, with carbonic acid and hints of yeasty off-notes. Highly attenuated with little bitterness to speak of; a dry, unrefined character upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is dry and tingly - bordering on tart, with prickly carbonation and a thin, watery body for the style. Pretty astringent, followed by an aftertaste of fruity, earthy yeast, acrid stewed leaves and faint wheat.
Hmmmm - could do with improvement. Looks alright, though the head doesn't stick around. The aroma is reasonably balanced but the flavour isn't great. Too dry, yeasty and with off-notes that hint at high temperature fermentation. Insubstantial body - where's the understated fullness of a German hefe? An interesting stab at the style but not a roaring success; no need to hunt it down.
