Deep mahogany with a quickly fading tan head. Just a spot or two of lacing is left on the glass. Smells sweet, malty, toffee, raisins, bourbon. Sweet with mainly raisins up front giving way to malty sweetness, bourbon and oak. Finishes with a slightly unpleasant bitterness. Not a bad beer but I'd like it better if it finished a bit more balanced.

Look: It pours dark brown with some cloudiness to it. Head retention is low. It has visible legs.

Smell: It has an initial impression of malty rich aromas with some vinous qualities. There are aromas of caramel, toffee, and molasses. It definitely has a wine like quality to it.

Taste: It has a very rich malty flavor to it with caramel, malt, and molasses. There are some cherry notes with vinous qualities. It also has some wood notes and a slight hint of smoke.

Feel: It has a full body on the chewy side. The balance is towards the malt. It has a pleasant alcohol warming to it. The finish does get a bit sweeter well into the aftertaste.

Overall, this has a complex combination of malts with fruity esters and low hops.

Bottle at Gate City Growlers, Greensboro, NC

A: The beer is dark reddish amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that died down but consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of bourbon are present in the nose along with notes of sweet caramelized malts.
T: The taste is dominated by favors of bourbon and has notes of caramel malts. Any traces of alcohol are well hidden.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a touch of warming from the alcohol.
O: This is a pleasant beer to sip and has some alcohol wIth some hints of warming to help add some warmth on a winter night.

"2015 American Barleywine aged in Bourbon, Spanish Rum and Cognac Barrels; blended together".

Bottle bought at the brewery in Raleigh, North Carolina, and consumed at home in Philadelphia, PA.

Looks good, great foamy head. Smells like caramel and sugar, hops and honey. Taste follows nose- all the usual notes of a barleywine. Brown butter, dessert.

Drinkable, good... but for the price and all the different barrels used, I am not terribly impressed.
