Notes: Le Saisonnier is named after the seasonal workers for which the first, old-world Saisons were originally brewed. Amber in color and fermented in and aged in Chardonnay barrels with a blend of yeast and bacteria, Le Saisonnier is bright, balanced and refreshing.

750 mL bottle poured into a wine glass.

Appearance - Murky and hazy orange. Medium white head. Lots of lacing and a thick collar.

Smell - Stone fruits and some citrus. Some wine barrel. Lots of yeast. A bit of a mineral character.

Taste - Stone fruit and more wine flavor. Pale malt is stronger here. Yeasty and pushing a bit sweet before the finish. Mineral character is strong and it has kind of a rotten fruit flavor in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Not as light as I was expecting. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Not as impressed as I normally am by Side Project saisons. It's got a weird aftertaste.

I was expecting a Saison, but tasted more like an American Wild Ale to me. Pretty tart with some fruit/citrus flavors, but I detected plastic/rubber off flavors. I'm hoping that this was a one off bottle issue and not the entire batch. Great body for 4.8%. Aroma is nice citrus and tartness, but I also get the plastic phenols. Color is between orange and amber, a bit cloudy, but not off-putting. You definitely get barrel and chardonnay, but the plastic ruins it for me. I've liked many of the Side Project beers, this one didn't do it for me.

Pour is a hazed deep amber with a dark center and white head with some larger bubbles on top. Nose is very big but quite messy. Tons of lemon and dirty muddled wheat, aggressive tang and marmalade with a hint of fish. Taste is quite sour, a bit of chemical cleaner, loads of funky lemon, lighter yeast with an aggressive carbonation and quite a dry finish. Fuller body for the style, not really well integrated.

This beer had a very prominent nose and flavour of fresh hose water. Shared this bottle with 5 others who all got that same strange flavour. That being said, this was still a very nice beer and the flavour, although odd, was not off-putting.
