The beer is very black. I have to tilt the beer a bit to get any brown. The head is fizzy and light brown. Aroma shows off a lot of acidic roast right off the bat. Some weak coffee. A touch of actually pretty good chocolate, which I wish was amped up considerably. While the taste doesn’t have much of a true roasted malt flavor, the acidity of black patent malt dominates the taste. There’s some light dark chocolate - again, a stronger chocolate presence would do wonders for this beer. Some simple malt sweetness, though the finish dries out satisfactorily. Odd mineral character. Feel is thin and a bit fizzy. This beer mostly emphasizes elements of the style that I don’t like. That said, I can appreciate the effort and the brewery’s intention.

Pours black from the bottle with a minimal head that disappears quickly. The first thing you smell is smoke and charred wood, maybe a touch of unsweetened cocoa. The smoke only increases on the tongue. The chocolate is slightly more pronounced with just a bit of dark fruit hiding in the background. Medium mouth and very, very dry. It reminds me of a campfire, but a decent representation of the style.

Pours a deep black with a medium brown head. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt, cacao with some mild dark fruit notes. Taste is of sweet dark roasted caramel malt, cacao and some espresso notes. Palate is a medium body, slight creamy mouth feel with good carbonation. Finish is a flavorful dark roasted caramel and chocolate malt some distant dark fruit and mild liquorice notes ending with a moderate bitter dry roasted malt and espresso flavor. A very nice tasty brew.
