Style: Belgian Quadrupel (Quad)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Fall/Winter

Inspired by the best of Belgium, specifically the brothers of the cloth who have devoted their lives to the brewing arts, Quasimodo is a classic, full-bodied quadrupel ale—for us, the measure of brewing perfection. Dark, savory and fruity, yet with a dry, bittersweet finish enhanced by the addition of imported Belgian dark candy sugar, Quasimodo is dangerously drinkable. Re-fermented in the bottle for natural carbonation, it can ring your bells now… or years from now.

L: Deep dark ruby with 1/2 inch of rocky khaki foam. Head dissipates quickly leaving little lacing.

S: Little bit of malt. A decent amount of brown sugar, fig, grape, and a good waft of booze.

T: Date fig and plum up front for me. Raw/brown sugar sweetness that isn't cloying blends well with spice and bready malt (specifically the crust of dark breads like pumpernickel or molasses bread). Clove and very light pepper. Finishes with a wine-like dryness while the malt stays behind. At times the aftertaste is reminiscent of good bourbon.

F: Very little carbonation. Just a few shades shy of syrup. Alcohol warming is nice.

O: A very solid and rewarding sipper. Might be a little too flat for some as the carbonation doesn't stick around for long at all. This would be great with a hearty meal or roasted meats. Great on a cold night to keep you warm.

Appearance: Presents beautifully with a two finger ecru head capping the mahogany colored liquid; clumpy lacing

Smell: Slightly burnt caramel and candi sugar tones buttressed by date, fig and banana

Taste: Caramel, candi sugar and yeasty phenols forward with a peppery mix of date and fig developing; hints of banana appear, as well; there is some welcome dryness in the finish, though the sweeter tones linger

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Four years in, this beer is drinking very nicely; well-done in a style that is rarely attempted these days in the American craft scene

Too sweet, lots of apricot, a bit flat. Still, a nice quad.

750ml bottle dated 2014. Brown hue loaded w/floaters and a low tan head. Fresh fig, caramel, sherry, tawny port, chocolate, rock sugar, raisins, black cherry, bread pudding taste. Full body, low carbonation.

This is exactly what I look for in a Quad. Recommended to me by the good folks at Hop City in Atlanta. Tastes like sweetness and fruit. Not a huge amount of alcohol coming through and slightly low carbonation.

L: brownish purple, little to no head, some light refracting through
S: grapes, brown sugar, caramel
T: more grapes, plum, good balance of fruits and sweetness. Should compliment that peach cobbler that I have baking quite nicely
F: not too thick, almost wine like
O: full taste and pleasing smell more than make up for the thin feel. Recommend, would gladly drink again
