Amber chestnut with a finger of beige.
Lots of orange compote on the nose with some caramel.
Bananas Foster sauce with resin, citrus and a touch of mango.
Nectar and grassy (dry-hopped) finish and numbing linger.
Medium, round, chewy, sticky.

Hops are there, especially the IBUs, and go a bit spearmint on the linger. But its far too dark and sweet to be any kind of IPA; more like a junior barleywine. Careful, your English is showing.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2018 (bottled Aug 2017). ABV is stated as 6.5%. Purchased a little while back from the Brewdog webshop. Described on the label as a retro American IPA and hopped with Amarillo and Mosaic.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned. A deep amber hue with faint haze and intense carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of fruity hops with hints of tropical fruit, mild citrus, zest, a touch of melon, berries, faint hay, caramel malt and earthy yeast. Rather nice.

T: Tastes of fruity aroma hops with notes of citrus, zest, tropical fruit, mild melon, subtle hay, caramel malt, faint barley sugar and earthy yeast. Slightly sweet, with a robust, hop-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with lively carbonation and good body. Hop oils stimulate the palate. Aftertaste of bitter fruity hops, citrus, caramel malt and earthy yeast.

O: Nice - a well-crafted American IPA with good hop presence. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are laden with fruity hops, earthy yeast and caramel malt. Lovely body. Goes down all too easily; worth sampling if you come across it.

Modern art label and cool name.
Amber color with a thick thin head with short retention.
Aroma with notes of caramel malts, pine, moth balls and white fruits.
Flavor with notes of slightly toasted and caramel malts, pine-moth balls, ginger, spearmint and lychees. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Bordering full body with appropriate carbonation.
It does feel a bit retro, in a time that US was looking for his space. Personally, I'm glad American IPAs have evolved. Still intense and hoppy and interesting vision of the Atlantic crossing to the new world. Moth balls side of its piney hops did not please me.

Opened a bottled transported by suitcase from London via Icelandic Air. Seems to have held up well. Poured with ample foam, on the creamy side, burnt caramel color, opaque. Nose is sweet and bready, a bit of orange and mango but not at all citrusy. Mouthfeel a bit disappointing, indecisive really, insipid fizz interferes with a smoother, rounded feel. Taste mostly follows nose, with a solid malt backbone, sticky sweet finish. Pleasant enough but not what I would call an American IPA but more of a West Coast IPA or some of the "English" style IPAs made with English malts. Either way, happy to have a pint of it next time I'm in London.
