Very Good
Southern JuiceSouthern Juice
Notes: IPA with a sensational experience in mind from the start. It is brewed with oats and wheat for a unique malt profile built to let the hops be the star of the show. We use huge additions of Citra and Simcoe hops for a juicy and aromatic ride. Southern Juice is packaged unfiltered to deliver a hazy, hoppy, and distinctive finish.

Had Southern Juice poured from 12-oz. can, no date, into tulip pint.

This is different. Citra and Simcoe. Tropical, melon and sharp citrus aromas off the pour, it begins smooth and sweet, then melon and mild caramel, with some wheat spice leading into a bit of a sharp and rather dry finish.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Cycle Brewing goblet.
NOTE: Can is undated, as far as I can tell.

A: Hazy - but not turbid - medium to darkish gold. A half-finger of white head with better than average retention. A lower amount of visible carbonation.

S: Citrus pulp and rind, and some tropical fruits. Light biscuit malts with no caramel character to speak of. Some milder dank and resin hops as well. Nice, albeit not huge.

T: Grapefruit, tropical fruits, and a bit dank. Some resin and grapefruit pith. Biscuit malts – again a bit sweet but not any caramel at all. A fair amount of bitterness in the hang, primarily citrus pith.

M: Average heft to the body. The alcohol presence is remarkably low. Good carbonation sensation.

O: I thought this was solid. No dating on the can that I could find, so I don’t know how old this was. Likely nothing that I’d actively seek out or trade for perhaps, but more than adequate if you found it somewhere.

Pours a hazy, gold-orange with a near all white head with good retention.

Smell: Citrus smell with pineapple and mango the most prominent,

Taste: Again mostly pineapple, mango and oranges. There is some toasty malts that come through as well. Does have a juice like character to it even with the pungent citrus hops leading the way. Medium bitterness at the finish.

Decent IPA

Great beer on a warm day. Very refreshing. It has a sweet almost pineapple/grapefruit combo at first followed by a very tasty citrus flavor to finish it off. It looks slightly cloudy with a small head that dissipates quickly, but overall a very good, very delicious beer

Pours a copper tinged orange color. Somewhat cloudy. Thin white head dissipates quickly leaving no lacing or residual head.

Smell has notes of sweet orange, tangerine, grapefruit, bit of a grassy bitterness on the finish.

Taste follows the nose with lots of tangerine, orange, and grapefruit up front. Gives way to a grassy dry bitterness that lingers on the finish.

Feel is light and drinkable. Moderate to medium carbonation.

Overall its a simple classic IPA thats pretty well done.

I tried this at Oudettes in Florence, Alabama. It poured a hazy orangish with no head and no lace. The scent had bitter citrus tones. The taste was bitter citrus leaning but was still drinkable. The mouthfeel was medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it was decent.

Malty and hoppy aroma. More hop dominance inn the flavor. Fruity and juicy with a smooth and relatively full body.

L - light gold and decently hazy. yellow-white head that fades
S - pine, grass, faint lemon and grapefruit.
T - citrus and pine.
F - good hoppy bite with relatively weak malt backbone (sort of fades to meh)
O - generally a good sipper, but leaves something to be desired at the finish.

Southern Juice has a nice a nice cream head and an enticingly cloudy body. It has a nicely balance flavor, leaning subtly to sweetness. It plays smoothly going down too.

12 ounce can - $2.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a moderately hazed, golden-orange body with a medium-sized, nearingly white head.

Smell: Pulverized pineapple and tropical mango/guava vibe with a fair amount of green herbaceousness, even hinting a sliver of mint leaf alongside a vein of resin with an undercurrent of slurried wheat and oats.

Taste: Some wheat and oats wrapped in tropical hop flavors, mostly pineapple and tropical fruits, but also some citrus, for me it's orange and grapefruit. A slight twang of wheat with a medium degree of sweetness riding. Medium-plus bitterness. Maintains the fruitiness but brings in the resiny pine and fresh herbal treatment on the back end. Finishes reasonably bitter.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Scant creaminess.

Overall: Not bad. I've had hoppier for the new, niche NEIPA fade, sure, but it's still decent enough. Oh, and, Jekyll, let's start dating these cans, alright?

Poured from a 12 oz can into a clear glass tulip. No canning date.

A: Mildly hazy peach hue with 1-2 finger off-white frothy head with good retention and an array of lacing down the glass.

S: Dank, pot aromas mix with more tropical fruit (guava mainly) and citrus hop components. The aroma takes almost a meaty quality with agitation.

T: The flavor is more lively than the aroma to me with more fruity berry and citrus pineapple flavors than the aroma with the dank, earthy is there through early, mid, and late palate. There is an appropriate dose of late malt caramel sweetness in the finish that helps provide a nice counter-balancing dimension to check the hopping which is no doubt aggressive. Low-to-moderate bitterness with no yeast character.

M: Exceedingly easy to drink -- I think I finished the whole thing in 10 minutes max. Light+ body with low-medium carbonation.

O: Big surprise that this beer had such a huge punch in both aroma and flavor departments. Jekyll has hit on a winner here.

Big thanks to JowenGeorgia for sending me this one in the infamy otherwise known as NBS Bif #5 .

Pours a swirling burnished brass to orange with a fluffy whitish head that leaps up 2 fingers and then settles to a consistent fluffy film. Some sticky, clumpy lacing.
Smell is beautiful. Citra pulls some orange and pithy grapefruit notes, followed by a nice blend of resin, some earthy passion fruit and hints of a solid malt backbone.
Taste is not quite as prominent as the nose. Starts with citrusy notes mentioned, definitely some resin, and a mellow malt backbone. Basically it's trying to follow the nose, but a bit subdued in comparison.
Mouthfeel is smooth, slightly slick. Drying out bitter on the end.
Overall, pretty good. I think I had my hopes set a little higher after basking in the aromas.

L: Orange golden, slightly hazy still visible through.

S: Citrus; grapefruit; passionfruit; slight malt

T: Follows from the noise, some juicy citrus fruits twisted with passion fruit and a slight malt background for balance. Really nice.

F: Carbed well, a smooth drinking ipa. Not to heavy or sweet. Light to medium body.

O: One of the better beers by Jekyll. Would definitely seek out a six pack now. Have seen it around town, but after trying it on tap it's definitely worth a spot in the fridge!! Not quite Trop. But it's a good try.

Poured from can into a snifter.

Golden-orange in color. Hazy/opaque. One finger white/off-white head that fades to a ring and thin partial cap with nice lacing.

Nice citrus aromas with grapefruit, passion fruit, and orange being the most pronounced but also some melon and berry. A little bit of pine aroma as well.

Taste follows the nose with citrus flavors followed by pine resin and nice malt backbone. Definitely more pine taste than was present on the nose.

Smooth. Medium body and carbonation. Some bitterness on the finish.

A solid, tasty IPA.

Competes with Tropicalia with the nice dank tropical feel, mango, orange pineapple. A little pine on the after. I really like this beer and will buy again.

Far and away Jekyll's best beer, they've captured the formula used by GA brewers in recent years making delicious crushable IPAs. This one takes a slightly yeasty funky approach followed by a peppery finish. I would not seek out but would definitely drink again.

12oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 8.99/ 6 pack. No canning date but this has only been out a couple weeks. Served in my trusty Phish snifter.

Pours a hazy, muted orange with a finger and a half of off-white head. That fluff fades to a patchy haze and full band, leaving several small spots of lace.

Smells of oranges, berries, melon and passion fruit. So sweet, juicy and inviting.

Tastes of orange, melon, passion fruit and a hint of crackery malt. Quite tasty and incredibly easy to drink.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. The finish is laden with citrusy and tropical hops, more juicy than bitter.

Nice work from Jekyll. Southern Juice is damned tasty and goes down particularly easily. This is a good one to keep on hand.

I would have to say this new Jekyll brew is my favorite from them. No canning date but recently released and flying off the shelves so I assume it's fresh.
Pours a hazy, deep orange with an inch of white head that settles fairly quickly. Definitely smell the Citra! Taste the pithy grapefruit with a resinous finish. Not overly carbonated as some of their other beers are (IMO), smooth and very drinkable!

Very solid, juicy IPA. In the same vein as other great options like tropicalia or Jai Alai, so this one is definitely in good company. Not a whole lot to say about this one, just a very good American craft IPA. Familiar but very tasty.
