Reviewed from notes. Purchased the 750 mL bottle at the brewery on 3/20/17, and tucked it away in the back of the refrigerator for some reason. Rediscovered and promptly opened on 12/5/19. Poured into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: Very dark brown to black, and opaque. The thin tan head recedes quickly to a ring and spotty foam. A low level of visible carbonation.

S: Dark bittersweet chocolate. Dark roasted malts with heavily-roasted coffee. Some tobacco, toffee, and vanilla. But mostly cacao nibs on the nose. Nice – it's chocolatey without being too overly sweet.

T: Dark cacao nibs and bitter (bordering on over-roasted) coffee. Dark roasted malts add to the bitterness – maybe even a touch of char (or "char-adjacent"). No smoke at all though. Notes of vanilla and caramel. A lingering dark mocha – heavy on the chocolate – in the hang, still with some roastiness.

M: A nice heavy and thick body without being cloying at all. The lactose is added beautifully, keeping things nice and creamy. Alcohol flavors are at a minimum. A low amount of carbonation sensation, but it's enough for this beer.

O: Really enjoyable. Sweet and big chocolate and coffee flavors but manages to be (in a sense, or for "style") balanced by the bitter flavors. Dessert sweet but not cloying.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

Pours a deep black color with a one-finger creamy khaki head. Smells of very sweet chocolate fudge with lots of sugary tones. Tastes of chocolate fudge, sugar, molasses, & vanilla cream. medium body and carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and finish. Pretty spot on in the description, it tastes like chocolate fudge

Appearance: Arrives with a fluffy dark tan head capping the fudge colored liquid; impressive lacing

Smell: Chocolate and coffee, with nut tones

Taste: Fudge tones forward with coffee and roast tones building; some nut elements build, through the middle, along with a fruity aspect; the finish has some mild bitterness, a lot of roast and chocolate

Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy with moderate carbonation

Overall: Pretty darn impressive beer here

Poured from a 750mL bottle into an Angry Chair pint glass.

Pours an thick black body with a big brown head that sticks around for a while and reduces to a solid layer leaving spotty lacing.

Aromas are super chocolately with tons of cocoa and some marshmallow, milk chocolate and Hershey’s chocolate syrup.

Taste is also very cocoa-milk chocolate forward, sweet syrupy body, like liquid chocolate with a bittersweet follow through. Aftertaste is chocolate chip cookies and lightly bitter bakers chocolate. Low carbonation.

This was enjoyable, albeit a little one dimensional with the amount of cocoa / chocolate flavors. Definitely a meal in a bottle!

On draft at Angry Chair. Served in a minisnifter. Dark black body, half finger mocha head, short retention, not much lacing. Smell is dark chocolate, tons of chocolate fudge, milk chocolate, a bit of bitter espresso and cocoa nib, a touch of marshmallow sweetness. Flavour follows, essentially chocolate fudge with a bit of cocoa bitterness. It's creamy, smooth with a fuller medium body, appropriately carbonated. Enjoyable beer, though I don't think I could drink more than this taster glass of this in one sitting.

Pours on the edge of black. Could see some light around the edges as poured. Dark tan head that dissipates quickly. Nice lacing on the glass. Smells sweet malts with a touch of coffee. Taste is best described by the label. The chocolate and coffee merge for a taste profile of fudge. Fairly thick, as the flavor coats your mouth and lingers a while between sips. Really liked this beer.

Bomber from the release day event.

The appearance is very dark with a nice tan head.

The nose is sweet, coffee and chocolate.

The taste is bitter dark chocolate with coffee. In my opinion not a hint of any resemblance to fudge.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and thick.

Definitely an enjoyable brew however the bitter dark chocolate is not one of my favorites.

Menacingly syrupy black with a minimal tan collar.

Smell is chocolate pie, marzipan, and nougat.

Taste is also milky chocolate pie, with fudge that is so sugary it brings on a slight burn, sweet waxy nuts, and an element of sweet vanilla cream topping.

Really sticky with a medium to full body. Sweet AF!

Like most Angry Chair stouts, it looks and tastes phenomenal. Deep and dark to look at, while smelling of rich chocolate and even some coffee...I can see why this is one of AC's most sought after beers.

Poured into an El Catador teku glass. Black velvety look with light lacing. Aroma is light coffee and fudgy chocolate bomb, definitely true to it's name. Taste follows the nose with a very nice, rich chocolate flavor.I do get a bit of the lactose that some other reviewers have spoken of, but to me it's not unpleasant at all. In fact I feel it adds to the overall flavor profile. Definitely getting the chocolate fudge flavor in a big way. Alcohol is very well hidden in this one. Mouthfeel is a bit thin for my taste. Was hoping for it to be thick like paint, but that's just my personal preference. Overall, a very solid offering. One that I would definitely drink again. Not yet in the class of Chocolate Rain by any means, but definitely a beer that I would seek out for another round.

Dark chocolate, roasted malt, fudge and cocoa. Maybe a hint of cinnamon. Somewhat sweet. Some lactose sugar flavor. Medium thick mouthfeel. Coats the palate. Dry finish. As per usual, Angry Chair makes a fine stout.

On-tap at the Angry Chair Brewery in Tampa, FL. The aroma and taste are both very sweet with hints of coffee and some warmth in the finish from the alcohol. Overall, a really solid beer especially if you enjoy sweet imperial stouts.

Black as night into a snifter. Imbibed at the Brass Tap in Dade City, Florida.

Tastes much like it sounds. Very thick, rich, and dense beer with strong notes of dark chocolate and coffee. There is a slight undertone of lactose. Very smooth and almost no hint of alcohol. It's really a stout lover's dream in many respects. However, it is so rich I found it hard to finish the snifter. If distributed in bottles, particularly the bomber format, be sure have someone that would like to share it with you.

Great flavor, though, and definitely a great dessert substitute -- it could easily replace a flourless chocolate cake.

Im not a big Imperial stout guy, but this beer was absolutely delicious. Aptly named, this was like a bucket-o-fudge. Actually it was like liquid brownie batter. Very thick with tons of fudge and coffee flavor, and no hint of the 9% ABV. Just outstanding.

Poured out as a black beer with a thin brown head on top. The smell was loaded with fudgy chocolate. Smells almost like a chocolate shop. The taste of the beer is also full of chocolate notes and sweetness. The feel is smooth and rich. Overall a very chocolaty desert-like beer.

My first from this brewery, thanks to rudzud.

Huge awesome creamy fluffy thick very dark mocha colored head fades slowly with lots of thick lacing, super dark pitch black beer.

Nose huge coffee out front, a nutty peaberry like fruity, mild sweet creamy stout blends nicely with the coffee, quite nutty as well, nice cocoa dust and toasted roasty coffee bean, mild fudgey cocoa.

Taste brings big chewy fudgey like cocoa, dark choc fudge, cocoa, etc. Mild roasted coffee, fresh coffee beans, nutty like coffee with little fruity peaberry like, little bitter roast and back into fudgey cocoa and mild baking spices. Finish is mild bitter, lots of roasted coffee beans, mild earthy nice nutty fruity coffee, chewy nutty coffee and fudge lingering.

Mouth I'd creamy thick lush with nice carb and no real booze.

Overall awesome.

What a discovery this is for people in the Tampa area. Had this on tap last weekend at Six Ten Brewery. Served in a snifter, the layers of chocolate clearly beneath a rich dark brown foam. Aroma was chocolate, taste was chocolate, coffee, and malt--deep and dark and wonderful. The feel was smooth and thick. This is a stout well worth a trip to Florida to try.

Shared with JLindros. MASSIVE thanks to Ben, the head brewer, for hooking me up with this after a trade went bad.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a super dark black hue with a dark chocolate head that fades to leave thin lacing.

S - Aromas of nice complex coffee, nutty coffee, good richness, not acrid at all, very well roasted. The chocolate is really nice , fudgy, like a chocolate coffee brownie batter. Not overly sweet either.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, lots of sweetness, the chocolate is really nice, super rich and nutty. The coffee is...well, I'm guessing this was a peaberry. The coffee is almost fruity, really nice roast with no acrid notes at all. Really impressive coffee roasting here.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy, nicely bitter. No alcohol burn at all. Great.

O - Overall this beer was really good. Excellent coffee and chocolate, really good roast and nice sweetness. Excellent.

Serving type: growler
