Released and purchased at the brewery 5/4/22. Poured at 54°. Dark brown brown with ruby edges; dark tan head; poor cap retention; small island of micro dots; solid ring; thin legs. Chocolate fudge nose. Chocolate with vanilla swirl; Oreo cookie dunked in chocolate milk. Medium plus body, not adjuncty; moderate minus carbonation; smooth almost slick tongue coating; no warmth from 10.5% abv. Overall a delicious non-barrel aged pastry stout; I’ve had variations of this beer, but never the base; loads of fudgey chocolate with enough vanilla to give it that Oreo cookie flavor; and the lactose provides the creamy feel. Angry Chair is one of the masters in the craft of pastry stouts, and this base beer is outstanding.

Dark brown, almost black out of the bottle. Taste of tobacco and sweet chocolate permeate. Candy store sweetness and terrific carbonation. Perfect mouthfeel.

Reviewed from notes. Purchased the 750 mL bottle at the brewery on 3/20/17, and tucked it away in the back of the refrigerator for some reason. Rediscovered and promptly opened on 12/5/19. Poured into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Very dark brown to black, and opaque. The thin tan head recedes quickly to a ring and spotty foam. A low level of visible carbonation.
S: Dark bittersweet chocolate. Dark roasted malts with heavily-roasted coffee. Some tobacco, toffee, and vanilla. But mostly cacao nibs on the nose. Nice – it's chocolatey without being too overly sweet.
T: Dark cacao nibs and bitter (bordering on over-roasted) coffee. Dark roasted malts add to the bitterness – maybe even a touch of char (or "char-adjacent"). No smoke at all though. Notes of vanilla and caramel. A lingering dark mocha – heavy on the chocolate – in the hang, still with some roastiness.
M: A nice heavy and thick body without being cloying at all. The lactose is added beautifully, keeping things nice and creamy. Alcohol flavors are at a minimum. A low amount of carbonation sensation, but it's enough for this beer.
O: Really enjoyable. Sweet and big chocolate and coffee flavors but manages to be (in a sense, or for "style") balanced by the bitter flavors. Dessert sweet but not cloying.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter
Pours a deep black color with a one-finger creamy khaki head. Smells of very sweet chocolate fudge with lots of sugary tones. Tastes of chocolate fudge, sugar, molasses, & vanilla cream. medium body and carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and finish. Pretty spot on in the description, it tastes like chocolate fudge

Appearance: Arrives with a fluffy dark tan head capping the fudge colored liquid; impressive lacing
Smell: Chocolate and coffee, with nut tones
Taste: Fudge tones forward with coffee and roast tones building; some nut elements build, through the middle, along with a fruity aspect; the finish has some mild bitterness, a lot of roast and chocolate
Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy with moderate carbonation
Overall: Pretty darn impressive beer here
