Coffee black with clear brown edges under a tall, dense but creamy tan head that uniformly settles to a ridged collar.

Creamy and soft but not overly thick or viscous, Fionn delivers a beautifully earthy mocha roast accented by a good push of nicely floral, nutty hazelnut. The nut, coffee and roasted malt combine to have an almost caramelized char to it, kind of like brown sugar, but a welcome rye-like spice helps with a contrasting bitterness. A note of creamy vanilla whip brings it all together as it warms.

The body is actually quite moderate for AC, with a fine but soft carbonation, coming to a just semi-dry finish. Not sticky or over the top at all.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: The darkest of browns, with a one-finger tan head. Nearly opaque except around the edges, and a relatively low amount of visible carbonation.

S: You can smell the hazelnut when pouring this into the glass. Once you start digging in, there’s coffee, vanilla, and dark roasted malts. Notes of caramel and toffee and chocolate. Biscotti cookie, then some more vanilla and coffee-flavored sweet filling. But very big hazelnut over the whole thing.

T: Hazelnut, coffee, dark roasted malts. Chocolate, vanilla, and more dark roasted malts. Mild roast bitterness as well – both from malt roast and roasted coffee I think. Maybe some minimal hop bitterness in there also. A touch of drying tobacco, but then buried under more hazelnut. Finishes with continued hazelnut, and a coffee + vanilla mix.

M: On the heavy side for a porter, but this doesn’t drink like a stout or anything. Alcohol only passingly noticeable – very low level overall. Carbonation sensation average for style.

O: This is a hazelnut bomb, but the coffee and chocolate are enough to prevent it from being one-note-ridiculous. Really pretty tasty, but you gotta enjoy hazelnut.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter

Pours deep brown in color with a thin creamy off-white head. Tons of hazelnut dominate the aroma, with undertones of herbal coffee and caramel, it smells like a hazelnut latte. Taste follows the nose, but the hazelnut isn't as prevalent. Caramel sweetness with some earthy coffee. Medium body with low carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and finish. Aroma was out of this world, but flavor didn't quite match up, still very good

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017, red session. Aroma is really hazelnut forward with sweet malt in the background. Taste is nutty, bittersweet, really balanced with some toffee on the finish.

Super dark with a small, tan head
Retention not a strong suit, no lace left.
Smell is sweet, roasted malts, vanilla, hazelnuts. Great balance.
The tongue gets what the nose promises, in order, in balance.
Smooth, sweet without being cloying or sticky. This a glass full of dessert.

Bottle and on tap fresh from the brewery.

The appearance is dark brown with a small head.

The nose is coffee, hazelnut and possibly caramel or other sweet character.

The taste follows the nose exactly with strong coffee, hazelnut and sweetness.

The mouthfeel is lite as expected. Medium bodies.

750 mL bottle. Deep brown body. Smells of hazelnut. Really nice hazelnut aroma. A little caramel malt. Tastes of coffee that I didn't really smell. Coffee isn't very rich, just kinda bitter. Hazelnut isn't as pronounced as a result. Light sweetness in the finish. Medium body. It's all adjuncts, but the hazelnut is nice.

Large shared bottle.
Smells at least as much like peanut butter as hazelnuts. I any case, it smells delicious. The flavor doesn't disappoint.
Very nutty and mildly sweet. Easy drinking yet highly flavored.

Very tasty brew. Smell is loaded with hazelnuts. Tastes of hazelnut/coffee combo. Reminds me a little of peanut butter flavor. Very good non barrel aged Porter. I'd say it's the Abraxas of Hazelnut beers.

Taster glass. Bless you, Shannon1

A: Dark brownish black with minimal head.

S: Oh crap, I could smell this one for days. Chocolate, hazelnut and coffee burst from the bottle a few feet away. Just fantastic olfactory vibes.

T: Oh crap, I could drink this one for days. Three of my favorite taste sensations mixed together in a stew of decadence. Chocolate. Hazelnut. Coffee. Throw in a shot of caramel for even more decadence.

M: Low to medium with medium, creamy carbonation.

O: One of the best tasting beers I've ever had. Recommended, especially if you love hazelnut coffee with a badass shot of chocolate.

A: Very, very dark brown, or maybe black with brown
highlights,1/8th head on gentle pour.

S: Amazing, sweet hazelnut and coffee.

T: Sweet but not cloyingly sweet hazelnut, coffee, light chocolate in the background.

F: Has a slight creamy texture to it, but not markedly so.

O: I have a few Angry Chairs that I have been saving, but this happened to find it's way
Into the fridge. My first Angry Chair. I had high expectations but this easily exceeded them. Fionn easily
beats Sardo Numpsa. For those that might worry that this is a dessert beer, it is not. I could easily drink
several pints back to back.

Pours thin and black. No light getting through except at the far rim edges. No lacing to be had, and the head was minimal and disappeared quickly, although that may be due to the age of the bottle.

A big hazelnut smel, very sweet. Almost no coffee smell.

The flavor is big hazelnuts on the front, slight coffee on the end. For an imperial porter the alcohol is hidden completely. No booziness at all.

Mouthfeel is medium carbonation and creaminess.

This is just a wonderful beer. Angry Chair is super flavor forward in all their beers, and this is a perfect example. One of my all time favorites.

Looks like a solid Imperial Porter.

This smells like a fresh bag of the baddest hazelnut coffee you've ever gotten a chance to get a whiff of. My god...I could smell this all day. Not one thing I would improve in this dept and one of the best/most powerful aromas ever.

Tastes like the most expensive hazelnut coffee you've ever had. It would be tough for the taste to live up to the mind-blowing aroma, but this almost does. Just amazing stuff. Hides the abv masterfully well. I would guess blind that this was a 7ish% brown ale, and not anywhere near 10.2%.

Not the most viscous beer ever (it actually looks/drinks like an imperial brown ale) but it just works for what this beer offers.

Overall, this beer just delivers and is ridiculously drinkable, hiding the abv well. It tastes amazing and has a formidable aroma that had my dogs begging me for a sip as soon as they smelled it across the room. Get some, this is a sleeper!

A- Poured into an El Catador teku glass. Black like oil with a thin brownish head, you know the story.
S- Hazelnuts and coffee = Nasal heaven
T- Whoa! Drop the freakin mike! If this was a Metallica CD it would be called "Hazelnuts Up Your Ass" or "Master of Hazelnuts". Don't forget the coffee that's mixed in for some very nice flavor balance. A bit sweet, but I like 'em that way.
M- Now for my only knock on this beer, just a little bit thin for me. Maybe I'm spoiled by those CCB and Bruery stouts and porters, but I like it when my straw stands up in the middle unassisted. Not that I drink beer with a straw, but you get the picture. I'm sure that it is consistent with the traditional style of an English Porter, but it's just my personal preference.
O- Bottom line is if you like hazelnuts and coffee, this is the beer for you. Loved it and will drink lots more. Another great beer from another great Tampa brewery.

Poured from 750 into half pint glass

Look: dark with hints of brown around the edges. Thin white head hugs the edges of the glass

Smell: if you like hazelnut coffee this is your beer. Hints of grain that inspire a good cake donut

Taste: Chocolate Hazlenut Cake. All up in your mouth. Not a healthy or artisan cake, but if this is what brains tasted like I'd be a zombie

Feel: thinker then some porters thinner than many stouts. Lingers nicely

Overall: A mighty fine beer. Much more than I was expecting. Grab a glass if you can

Sampling this beer cold from a 32 oz growler and poured into a tumbler....Im in a hotel so glassware is slightly limited!
The beer pours a dark cola brown, with some mahogany highlights on the edges of the glass. There is a creamy beige colored head of about 1 cm that fades to almost nothing soon after the pour. the aroma is some brown sugar and LOTS of hazelnut and some roasted malt. NO hint of any booze on this one.
First sip reveals a a silky smooth texture that rolls easily across my palate. the beer has an average to thick body and a fairly sweet flavor with brown sugar and again lots of hazelnut and a bit of roasted malt. In general the beer is malt dominant and very sweet with not a lot of hop character to make note of during the sampling.
I also dont get any hits of booze ad the only reason I know the beer is strong is by the end of the growler.
This is a very nice sweet malty beer and Im glad to have gotten a chance to try it. thank you MHorridge for the connection at Angry Chair. An awesome brewery that is definitely worth the visit if in Tampa!

Pours brown and I can almost see through it as it's being poured. Thin covering of foam layered across the top of the beer. The nose is all hazelnut and some chocolate. It's bursting with hazelnuts. Smells delicious. Taste follows the nose. Intense hazelnut flavor dominates with chocolate cake coming in second and coffee taking third place. I also get hints of raisin and graham cracker. There isn't much roast coming through, but the coffee provides a slightly bitter finish to balance the sweetness. The mouth feel isn't chewy, but it's substantial enough to support the big flavors coming from this porter. Carbonation is lively. It could be dialed back a bit for this style, but overall this is a great beer. It's probably my favorite non-barrel aged beer AC has released to date.

Pours black with a light minimal head. The body of the beer is decent, definitely a porter and not a stout. The abv is hidden well behind the hazelnut flavor, which is heavy in this beer. Not a lot of coffee in the nose or taste, mostly hazelnut. It's good as described but nothing spectacular. It's a big one note and unless you love hazelnut it's a bit much. The cycle hazelnut stouts while being over the top on hazelnut flavor, have the barrel to off set the flavor. This one is just a straight hazelnut porter. Flavorful, but not special. But hey everyone of their beers can't be a home run. And I'm sure this will appeal to some of the people that may not like the sweetness of their stouts.
