So what would Florida breweries know about stout culture, or coffee culture? Turns out quite a bit and two of them, Civil Society and Angry Chair collaborate on an imperial milk stout with coffee for a taste that's sheer indulgence and exceptionally balanced.

Very dark brown, Dulce de Pepe caps with a rich coffee creme. Lacing centrically with each sip, the stout places an aura of the coffeehouse on the senses with a single pass of the nose. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and sweet cream is lightly confectionary and robust all at once. Lavishly sweet on the tongue, the beer's cream, vanilla and gentle caramels come together in a strong cappuccino richness.

Much of the same transpires on the middle of the tongue even while the sweetness and marshmallowy textures begin to dissolve. Coffee flavors intensify but stay mild and silky throughout. A light bitterness on the late palate seems coffee derived although its hops generate a woodsy, bark-like impression with smoky chocolate.

Decadent but soft, the full bodied stout trails with the essence of caramelized sweet cream that layers perfectly on a calm spiciness of vanilla and nutmeg. Kahlua warmth comes in late as the savory and roasty ale lingers on the after palate, again, like Irish cappuccino.

Two of my favorite breweries blended together to make one of the best beers I've had this year. Generally don't like collabs but wish I had more of this one. Sweet, caramel taste and smell of dulce de leche with a light finish (not heavy cloying like some sweet stouts can be) that I assume is compliments of the boys at Civil.

Bomber and on tap at the release event.

The appearance is black with a nice thick head and lacing.

The nose is sweet caramel and slight coffee.

The taste follows the nose with a copious amount of caramel sweetness and coffee. Excellently balanced.

The mouthfeel is full bodied and thick.

A great collaboration between Angry Chair and Civil Soceity.

I'm kinda surprised a 10.5% imperial stout collaboration with Civil Society did not get more buzz. This was one of the highlights of my first visit to Angry Chair last month, and I wish I had picked up more than two bottles. A little on the sweet side, but what do you expect from a dulce de leche stout? I hope they brew it again!
