Imperial German Chocolate Coffee Cupcake Stout

Poured at 53 degrees. Fizzy brown head leaves a small island of micro dots; otherwise poor cap retention; solid ring; no lace; no legs; a few flecks of floaties. Chocolate fudge nose; a whiff of coffee as it warms. Sweet chocolate fudge up front; vanilla; barely any coffee; sugary graham crackers/biscotti finish. Full body; light carbonation; silky smooth lactose feel, which doesn’t feel adjuncty; minimal warmth from 11% abv. Overall, another delicious variant on the IGCCC theme; I wish it had more coffee; enjoyable chocolate milkshake linger.

 

 

I’m used to Angry Chair beers being incredibly sweet and cloying, but this is well-balanced. Good amount of coffee bitterness up front with a Mounds bar finish. I mean, don’t get me wrong.. this beer is sweet, but not tooth rotting sweet. You could drink a fair amount of it without it becoming overwhelming.

 

 

This one pours a syrupy looking dark black color, with a small head and not much lacing.

This smells like toasted coconut, chocolate syrup, sugar, and weirdly - stale licorice?

There’s really not much coffee at all here, and there’s kind of a stale vegetal and licorice-esque earthiness that just kind of hangs over everything. The coconut is done well enough. The whole thing is just sweet and muddled, though.

This is syrupy and not super drinkable, with a muddled finish.

I expected a bit more here. I still don’t quite the absolute adoration for Angry Chair stouts that most people have.

 

This is just like a riesen candy. Nice thick and chewy. Chocolate and coffee galore. This is fantastic.

Color is as dark as a school blacktop

Smell is sugar coffee

Taste is sweet creamy coffee off the bat and the chocolate fudge is a step behind..a solid amount of vanilla here too.. slight bitter coffee kickback at the end

Carbonation is medium fizz and the mouthfeel is exceptional..thick and sweet

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- Pours deep black in color with a thin khaki colored head that has short retention and leaves a ring around the edge.

S- smells of toasted coconut, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee and fresh espresso that gives some herbal notes

T- caramel and toffee sweetness mix with dark chocolate and toasted coconut up front mid-palate brings out mocha espresso and fudge notes, the finish lingers with caramel and coffee

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- coffee cuts through the sweetness of the other additions, super sweet but not cloying, very good

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pours pitch black with a thin ring of tan head. Smell is rich, sweet milk chocolate. Some roasted coffee notes. Taste follows the nose. Sweet desserty chocolate, light coffee notes. Full bodied, silky mouthfeel. Overall, an excellent offering. Very sweet, dessert stout.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A lot of hype around this beer, which usually means I'll be disappointed. Not with this one. This beer is really good. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Not TG level thickness, but better then most. It tastes like lava cake with the vanilla and coconut complimenting the chocolate really well. Complex flavors that all work very well together.
