For readily-available stuff, this is a good stop as prices are reasonable. On my last trip I saw a relatively wide breadth of craft selection. Some Bell's Troegs and other regional craft products, with a fair amount of decent imports. Quality of the offerings to me were solid - maybe not a great deal of the hard-to-find stuff but more of the flagship offerings that move. Nothing wrong with that. In a place like this I really don't expect service, I mean...$#!+ dog...when you go to Best Buy do you expect the zit-faced teenager to know the ins and outs of the TV you're buying? Same deal here. This is a big box, and a decent big box. Prices are very reasonable. You can get a few things here a buck or so cheaper than other outlets in town. Good place to stop into for comparison shopping.

I agree with most of the comments from other reviewers. The store is large and has a huge selection of craft beer, large domestically produced beer (e.g. Buds, Coors, Miller, etc.), and imports. There is a whole isle of single bottles you can select to build your own six pack. At times, you can feel like a kid in a candy store--what should I get!

The major downside is that you have to be careful about freshness dates especially in the build your own six pack area.

If it is wine you want, their wine selection is really large.

I visit the store about once a week to stock up on beer and wine. I think most of the folks there recognize me. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Like Most Total Wines. More Wine than Beer. Still a very large amount of craft beer. Huge selection of single bottles is great if your looking to make a mix a 6. Limited Releases are kept behind the customer service desk so you have to ask for them, normally with a one or two bottle limit. Staff is friendly and willing to help if needed. Prices are normally very competitive a lot of times cheaper than some other shops in the area.

Typical huge wine and beer store. They do have great special releases though in good quantities. Most will be limited to 1 bottle per customer per day. They keep them behind the counter with a board posting what they have. Just ask. Their end caps tend to feature both good, highly rated limited release beers and mass produced weaker beers that have been unloaded in our local market from a brewery out of state. Prices are good but some other retail stores can be just as competitive if not more. Staff can be a huge help (the assistant manager in particular) or no help at all. If you know what you want, this is the place for you.

I'll echo what has already been said. Lots of beer in cases, sixers, and singles. Decent prices--it's a chain with buying power. Service: not as proactive as other locations, but I managed. Bigger emphasis on wine (duh) in the cramped store. I'd recommend those other local shops in Richmond any day, but I had to see what they had.

One of my two main go-to beer stores in Richmond. The prices are pretty good, and the staff are awesome. Favorite part: You can mix your own six packs with anything in the store. I should note that I'm rating the Robious Road location, and *not* the one on West Broad. Highly recommended.

This is the walmart of beer/wine shops. There is a ton of inventory, stacked aimlessly and this is only amplified by the fact that the staff knows less about what beer than you do, because you know the name. If you have an hour to waste and don't want any help finding something that may, or may not be there, this is the shop for you. Go to Corks and Kegs or Once Upon a Vine.

Remarkably large selection of craft and imported beers, although the emphasis here is on wines and commercial brews. The prices are excellent compared to my neighborhood stores in Boston, MA, but I don't know how they relate to other stores in Richmond. The place looks like a warehouse club layout, in a partly vacant strip mall; nevertheless, selection is excellent, and offerings are up-to-date (e.g., seasonal brews are available as expected). I don't know how fresh they are, though, as it may be the warmest wine/ beer store I've ever been in given that the temperature outdoors is 63F today.

I hate to admit it, but this is probably my favorite overall place to buy beer in Richmond. I enjoy shopping at other stores once in a while, but Total Wine has a great American singles collection, and most importantly for me, the prices are often quite a bit lower than some of the competitors.

The store is bursting at the seams with inventory, more so than the Midlothian location which often has lots of empty space on the shelves. You have to check dates, as there are certainly some older beers sitting around. But that's true at most places in Richmond.

They get big releases - this is where I got my Hopslam this year for instance. They also have as good as, if not better, selection of local beers as some of the non-chain shops in the city.

The service isn't great, although it's not as bad as some seem to think. Most employees aren't terribly knowledgable about beer, but a few are very helpful, and everyone I've talked to is at least friendly and does their best - no one has an attitude or anything.
