Another Positive Pie restaurant in their chain and honestly, it's pretty much the same as the others, so I'm hoping my numbers come out fairly close to the others without looking. It's always clean in this one. Lights are noticeably dim, but I'm never bothered. Low key music. Service is attentive. Selection is the same as the other Positive Pies. Food is good too.

Driven by it a thousand times (and by a thousand, I mean, maybe twice a year every year since 2010; my first visit to Hill Farmstead, in the ‘growlers out of the tap room’ phase), but had never stopped in. I’d heard they was the goods, but it was always a timing thing (it’ll be tight to make it to Alchemist before they close) or a timing thing (having stopped for lunch 2 hours before along the way). This day, however, I find that apple cider donuts, beef sticks, black liquorish wheels, and all the free Cabot cheese I was able to squirrel up at the company store will not sustain, and table Dorothy and Caledonia Old Tom Cat call for something more…

Parked and ascended the hill at 15 & 16. Adjust your eyes and take it in. Pebbled granite bar to the right, with a panel base and wide foot bar; seating for 15 on wood chairs. 20 tap row on the center of the barback, done up in wood block & plank accents. Tiered booze countered to both sides below flatscreens, and glassware shelved on the ends with cans & bottles displayed (macro, retro, N/A, ginger beer, & soda). Coolers and more glassware below.

Wide wood slat floorings, walls in pale orange, green, & beige (in this light, anyway), and a grey ceiling with duct work and then sound buffer squares things. Center slat wood piece overhead with sprawling single bulb lighting strung, glass bottle chandeliers over the bar and in the front corners, and inlayed baby spots in the barback. Large logo front windows with black trim, and a bench for the waiting on one side. VT scenery prints (and pigs?) on the far wall that I think may be for sale. Granite bar counter splits the room, dividing the bar from the seating side. A dozen and a half tables riddled about, mostly 2’ers and some pushed together for larger groups on shared benchings. Mounted boards on the pillars at each end of the bar counter shows weekly specials & positive cocktails.

Specialty pizzas, sure. I can see pizzas a-flying, yes, a-flying. Must have. I did the pizza Margherita and Witz, the old school supreme. Mine was good, his had some heat. Mmm, good thin crust pizzas from the oven in the open kitchen to the rear (me, pointing). I see fire, baby!

20 taps; 16 beers, Vermont (Hill Farmstead Citra & Edward, Fiddlehead IPA, Zero Gravity Conehead IPA, Idletyme Danube & Doubletyme DIPA, 14th Star Uncle Steve’s Brown Ale, Queen City Brewery Yorkshire Porter, Burlington Beer Coniferous BA Stout, Rock Art Mosaic IPA, Switchback Ale), and elsewhere (Dogfish Head Festina Peche, Ommegang GoT: Seven Kingdoms, Lagunitas A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale, Left Hand Good Juju, Bud Light), plus the non-beery (Citizen Cider Uniform Press, UFF Dry Hopped Cidah, KIS Kombucha, Rookies Root Beer). 2/3 of the draft options are VT born, I like. I drank the Hill Farmstead Citra, Zero Gravity Conehead IPA, and 14th Star Uncle Steve American Brown.

And damned if the place didn’t fill up fast. I blinked and it very quickly filled in around us. Witz is standing now, “’cause he’s sick of sitting”, he says, but it really means he wants to go, and Ultraman awaits in Waterbury. Pizza slices displayed in a little rack at the front of the bar. We should get some to go, I will need them come late night when I’m sans food and cursing the world. I should hit this place every time I go to or fro, as it’s easy and good.

Decent enough selection (~20 or so taps) of quality, local brews (e.g., Hill Farmstead x 2 taps, Burlington, Fiddlehead, etc.). Space is somewhat cramped and seating/service is slow for what is probably the best food/beer selection in the surrounding area.

Decent place in a small town area. The vibe is pretty low key, nothing too fancy. Some decent beers on tap from time to time. The food wasn't bad. I would consider re-visiting if I were in the area.
