Take a Deduction, our abbey-style dubbel. This effervescent ale showcases sweet, malty notes with hints of dark fruit, complemented by mild bitterness from classic European hops. Belgian candi sugar helps deliver a light, dry body to this dark, approachable dubbel.

Good. First try on the style. Can taste the alcohol from the first sip...would buy again. This brewery is about 30 minutes south of indianapolis and is worth the drive

Living in the Indy area I was looking for a Belgian style beer available on a keg for my home bar. Taxman Brewery offers their year-round lineup on 1/6 kegs. I decided to first try a can of their Deduction dubbel, here is what I think: Poured on a tulip glass, can at 48 degrees, not much of a head that dissipated pretty fast, hazy darkish color, good smell that forecasted a sweet taste far from the hoppy bitterness so popular these days (a good thing in my humble opinion), the taste was very much as you would expect in a Belgian dubbel with notes of dry fruit and caramel but the sweetness became overpowering after a few sips, this is a very good one glass beer but definitely not a "session Beer". Overall I think I will keep this beer in mind but will not have it as one of my regulars at home (4 taps).

Only my 4th unique from Taxman, they are a top priority on my North American (BBBL) Belgium Brewers Bucket List. I bought four 4-packs of which Deduction, their classic dubbel, was one.

Several things Taxman does better than the 8000+ micros in North America. One is they know how Belgians use brewers sugar. Another is a great variety of spicing other than hops. But Taxman's basic strategy is clearer in Deduction: innovate and interpret, but not be extreme. Deduction is eight years old and I'd bet it has evolved in small ways from batch to batch. With a 4-pack for me, I will give a fuller review and with food. A Votre Sante' !

8/15/22 It's summer and I'm eating a stewy ratatouille suitable to the other three seasons. But even out-of-season, Deduction passes the food test; indicating that Taxman produces a very good dark table ale as well. Deduction Looks quite good relative to its style, a nice foam and lace. I don't read too much from Deduction's Smells, and that is good because I want my world-famous ratatouille to smell like the centerpiece (garlic is special to me.) Tastes follow the same principle: Deduction has its complex flavors meld. This lets the ratatouille do its thing. Deduction cleans the palate for another bite. I want this to last. Will Taxman please distribute in Illinois ?

I can’t believe I haven’t rated this

It looks dark asl with reddish. Some whiter head. Blah blah blah

Is smells like plasticity chocolate raisins. With hella vodka.I like the plasticky chocolate raisins but it’s too much.

It tastes ight but it’s a dark fake good beer with high abv

It mouthfeels like chewy in a 9/10 way but everything else is off. I wanna like it for the price but it isn’t perfect.

Overall it’s great for the price if u want a heavy end of night beer. It’s gets cloying fast so serve this to crowds of highly respected folks. You can do much worse but don’t expect much

12 ounce can into IPA glass, canned on 8/17/2020. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red/brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas and flavors of big raisin, prune, fig, date, red apple, pear, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread/crust, toast, peppercorn; light banana, bubblegum, clove, nuts, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, herbal, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; and herbal, woody, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation and body; creamy/bready malts and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight lingering resins. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy dryness; no cloying/astringent flavors. Mild increasing warmth of 8%. Very smooth and complex. Outstanding balance between yeast complexity and rich malts, with solid earthy hops. Certainly one of the best American made dubbels I have had. Spot on style all the way as expected of the brewery.

Amber to dark brown in color with a fingernail of light brown around the rim and covering two thirds of the top. The aroma is sweet Belgian malt. I’m tasting a touch of sweet Belgian yeast and more sweet Belgian malt. The mouth is dry and crisp.

Medium brown body with a finger of tan foam with steady lacing. Candi sugar, dark fruit especially plum and date, brown sugar, faint black strap molasses, and begian yeast in the nose. Taste is much the same but with more yeasty depth and a hint of tobacco. Feel is light and slightly thinner for a dubbel, sweet smoothness balances with the yeast. Good new world entry

12oz can from Tavour. Clear, dark brown pour, a few bubbles remain. Malty aroma, brown sugar, plums. Taste brings a smidge of Belgian yeast, malts, tobacco, prunes. Aroma edges out the taste. Seems a bit thin.

Pours a dark amber. Minimal head with almost no lacing. Nice malty smell with fig undertones. Taste is pleasing, as the raisins and figs used in the brewers description of the beer are apparent, with the fig the more prevalent of the two. Feel is a little thin. Goes down smoothly for 8%. Overall a good dubbel.
