Surprisingly unboozy for the ABV, this powerhouse of a beer caught me off-guard from the other Taxman brews I've tried. It was not overwhelmingly Belgian but had a bit of interest and originality with all the other stout notes you'd hope for!

Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a 12 fl oz can on November 14, 2018. Evasion is a limited release imperial Belgian stout aged in bourbon barrels. A blend of classic roasted malts, flavorful Belgian artisan malts and dark candied sugar create this rich and full bodied stout. Indonesian vanilla beans add smooth caramel notes, accenting the alcoholic effervescence. Conditioning in fresh Kentucky bourbon whiskey barrels contributes to the robust and complex finish.

12 oz can poured into pint glass, thanks to Milan in IN for this!
A: pours a dark dirty motor oil brown with hints of ruby red, thin brownish white foam head
S: roasted malt, bourbon, hints of cocoa, floral hops
M: rich and thick body, chewy, slight sticky on the tongue
T: roasted malt, Belgian yeast, hints of cocoa, floral hops that bite on the tongue, earthy resins, bourbon, very complex and rich, alcohol creeps up towards the finish as it warms
O: complex brew with interesting tastes that meld together, alcohol hidden well at 13%, take some time on this one

Evasion is the new name for Taxman's previous anniversary Belgian-style BBA stout, Death and Taxes. The 2017 bomber label claims 14.5% abv, so this is a heavy hitter by any account. Absolutely delicious, and one of the first "Belgian-style" stouts that gives me some indication of how that might differ from an American or Russian imperial. Yeasty, with some vinous notes and Belgian esters coexisting harmoniously with roasted malts and floral hop character. Not much in the way of the chocolate or vanilla that are so popular nowadays, and also only a hint of barrel oak. Hides the high alcohol content extremely well, with a smooth, full body and long finish.
