From a 12 oz can to a tulip glass. No date on the can.

A-The beer is not very attractive, but I suspect I am one of the few that place any value on how an IPA (or IIPA) looks these days. The head is yellowish white and roughly one and one-half fingers tall to start. Foam is dense and sticky, and retention is good. The beer is murky, but not opaque, and an unpleasant yellow-straw color.

S-The aroma is a nice, fruity sweet mixture in the NE style. I sniff pineapple, mandarin orange, guava, mango, a mild floral note and some honey sweetness. Bitterness is very low.

T-The taste follows the smell pretty closely. It is juicy and sweet with low levels of bitterness. I am not picking up much alcohol, either. A hint of astringency and aspirin sneaks in on the finish, but otherwise this is nice blend of juicy tropical fruit and light honey notes.

M-The body and carbonation are almost creamy with medium heft and softer bubbles. A touch sticky, but not overly so.

O-I am not entirely sold on the NE style IPA, but this is one of the better attempts that I have tried. Nice tropical fruit with almost none of the aspirin or astringent, pithy bitterness that NE style IPAs often give off. I would like to try this again.

12 oz can. Pours very hazy dark gold with a medium frothy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is some sweet fruit with lots of green resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet fruit and bready malts with a lot of peppery green resiny hops with a little onion. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice DIPA, but would be better with more fruit and less onion.

Updating rating on 10/11/16 due to the beer changing a bit on this new release. This incarnation, and the last few releases, have been 8.5%, not 9.2%. Canned five days before consumption. They subtlety dubbed it Papa 2.0, and I think that's valid given the change to the entire beer. Much hazier than previously and great citrus aroma, followed by a similar flavor profile. They tweaked the original to NE'ify it and it works beautifully. A truly exceptional double IPA, and a great revision to their first effort. This brewery can do no wrong lately.

poured 16oz can into snifter.

A - Hazy golden orange with a 2 finger white head. Excellent retention that fades into a think collar and leaves thick lacing on the glass.

S - Bold and hoppy with green and bitter notes. Mangos, grapefruit, and a bit of pine intertwine nicely with the sweet malt.

T - Follows the nose with a big bitter big on the front. Taste is quite green with flavors of grapefruit rind, mango, pine notes. A mild sweetness creeps into the middle but the finish is mostly bitter.

M - Medium body with excellent carbonation. Certainly dry on the finish from all the bitter hops.

O - A very nice 16oz canned IIPA for all the hop heads.

Papa Silenus pours with a great rocky white head and golden color with excellent clarity. You can tell right away that the malt bill was very low in color.

Beer is a little sweet at first but has a nice crisp finish with hints of pine. No lingering or harsh bitterness just very smooth.

Aroma is full of citrus and grapefruit.

Very enjoyable beer. A nice showcase of hops without being rude to your pallet.

Pours pineapple juice yellow with a great thick haze. Good white head. Good lacing after a few sips. Smells of pineapple and citrusy hops. Tastes of mango and guava fruit with classic hazy hop character. Super juicy. Perfect amount of fullness to the mouthfeel. Overall best Colorado DIPA out there. Fantastic beer. Don't see how you could give it less than a 4.25. Oh wait, I know, it lacks the hype other DIPAs receive.
