Cloudy appearance. Very little nose, fairly bland early and opens up on back of pallet. Enjoyable with a good backbone.

Gifted from a friend, straight from the Odd13 Brewery.
L - Looks like a lot of their beers, not hazy, not murky but not clear. Good lacing.
S - starts off promising, good aromas of the Citra / Motueka combo of hops, starts to smell a little more tropical over time
T - others will differ but it's the darn Motueka hop that gives it a weird (to me) rotten mango taste, a little sweet, tastes almost too tropical. If that's your bag, you'll love it. If not, well..
F - mouthfeel is good, carbonation balanced, not a giant head on it, when poured. I like the feeling, but the mango thing...ugh.
O - a solid DIPA from Odd13 but need to remember to avoid Motueka. Cheers!

CAN: 12 fl oz pull-tab. Canned 11/18/19. Acquired as part of a sixer at Argonaut Liquor, Denver, CO.

8.0% ABV. Brewed with Pilsen and Spelt malts, and Citra and Motueka hops. "Double India Pale Ale."

Turbid orange body. Off-white head.

Creamy and soft, with a lactose sugar (or is that just the spelt?) sweetness sapping any pungency or bitterness from the mild hops. Citra and Motueka are not well showcased, but the vague tropical puree flavour that runs through this India Odwalla Ale isn't unpleasant. Pineapple. Guava. Orange juice. Citrus pulp. It owes more of its flavour to Motueka than Citra, to its detriment. (Tropical fruit is less interesting to me than acidic citrus, but to each her/his own).

Well-carbonated. Has a pulpy unrefreshing texture. Drinks like it's 8% (ABV isn't disguised). Medium-bodied. Smooth. Wet. Overall feel on the palate is good but not great.

It's an easy drinking ale at 8% owing to its mellowness and lack of any hop aggression, but the point of the imperial IPA style is to showcase hop varietals - their flavour, their bitterness, their aromas, their essential character...this doesn't do so for either Citra or Motueka to a satisfactory extent. It's not a bad brew by any stretch, but it's no Codename Superfan and it doesn't hold up to the best turbid (I)IPAs brewed in Colorado, let alone the country or world.

For those drinkers into the whole India Odwalla Ale fruit puree tropical hop circle jerk phenomenon, this will be heavenly. Those buying an imperial IPA expecting an effective and enjoyable delivery mechanism for interesting hop varietals will find it less interesting.
