From BeerAdvocate Magazine #88 (May 2014):

Bold, Brash, Lively, Fun

A lively showing if maltiness in this Imperial Red Ale, thick layers of toasted grain and caramel take over the palate to start. Alcohol and hops keep things on an even keel here. Warming and malty throughout proof that it lives up to its style. Tastebuds are having way too much fun with this beauty.

One of my favorites in all my travels. If you find yourself in the area of this brewery definitely indulge!

Taste is pine, toffee, tree bark, and bread. This is a tasty and boozy, heavy amber ale. There is a slight bitterness that clings on. I enjoyed this one and would get it again if I was looking for the style.

Nice hazy dark copper, beautiful dense off-white head, Belgian lace everywhere. Creamy mouthfeel, perfect carbonation. Big malt backbone with a slightly boozy, earthy, citrusy, refined and subtle but assertive 80 IBUs. Hop heads should certainly not be disappointed with this one. Alcohol ninja at a stealthy 8%, goes down super easy. The 16 oz. cans will sneak up on you, but it deserves an Imperial pint glass to appreciate it properly. Overall its character reminds me of a cross between a red and an English bitter on steroids. Another winner from SPB, and an underrated classic.

Note: I'd like to take this opportunity to mention that a great beer doesn't always need 15000000 IBUs of cascade hops to give it character. There's more to life (and beer) than lupulin.

Poured from 16 oz can with no visible date.

A: Sligthly cloudy medium brown with some red hues. Two finger dense white head with nice retention and leaving some significant lacing.

S: Bready malts with a piney hop punch. Some caramel sweetness, and a slight peppery spice note to the aroma that I can't quite place.

T: Toasted malts and caramel mixed with earthy pine and citrus hops. Alcohol is pretty well hidden.

M: Full bodied and average carbonation with an almost creamy quality to the feel.

O: Very nice imperial red. Easy drinking and refreshing. Happy to have SPB distributing in our area now.

Doing some snowbirding and trying some local beers.Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark beige color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of caramel malts, some hops. Taste is caramel, alcohol, some hops, a bit on the boozy side. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.
