I love this place. I have been going here since it opened and have never had a bad experience. I think that the beers that are served have a lot of character and a personal touch to them. What you get from the beers tastes more like the flavors you get from really good home brews, as that is what Barb (the owner) is.
Since this is such a small place she doesn't have a vast selection of beers on tap. There are always your staples, amber ale, porter, IPA, wheat beer. The IPA's are usually what I go with as they are my favorite style (no shock there I'm sure). However, being that she is small she doesn't always have access to the same varieties of hops, so the flavor and subsequent number next to it changes. The Wizard Wand Wheat is one of my favorite wheat beers, and I am not a huge fan of wheat beers. It is a nice refreshing beer for a hot summer day.
The Brewery its self is in the garage of the actual bar and she does all the fermentation in the basement. As some reviewers have written it does feel like you are in the kitchen of someones house since that is what the building used to be. It only seats 23 people and I always say to myself that it is like you are in a buddies college house that they just gutted and turned into a party house. It also doesn't hurt that they are only 3 blocks away so in nice weather I can walk down there too.
Barb has done a lot to make it feel more like a bar and less like a house. They have added a concrete patio with benches out front and she usually has someone come in that is selling BBQ or Italian beef sandwiches so you can get some food on certain days. There is also a pizza joint across the street and she has no problem with you bringing a snack in. Sometimes you can get lucky and someone brings a little too much and they will share with you.
The staff there couldn't be any nicer. Barb herself is behind the bar during the week and then Melinda usually takes over for the weekend, then on Sunday's you get Brandon (a.k.a. British Bob) . All of whom take pleasure in what they do and are more than willing to chat with you while you are enjoying your beer. They also take the time to get to know you and make you feel like you are someone they look forward to seeing.
All in all it is a great place to go have a beer. The selection is a little smaller then you would see at a bigger place, but the people and atmosphere makes up for that. If you are a local to Valparaiso make it a regular stop and if you are just passing through go have a beer or a flight and see what its all about. Either way you will enjoy your self.

I went here on a recommendation from Melissa down at Valpo Brew's. I didn't know what to expect and felt like I was walking into someones house. I ended up really enjoying my pint and am happy I gave it a chance. Will go back for sure. Perhaps I'll wait a while between trips so I can try different types as selection seemed to be limited.
