DATE: April 8, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating Michael's first travel game--and his first at-bat, bases-clearing triple--as well as a good visit with Bob... GLASSWARE: Penn State pilsner... pours a clear, golden body with massive bubbles that bolsters a four-fingered blanket of thick, white, pocked head... that same head clumps to amoeba-like clouds... aah, the sweet and bitter promise of Saaz in the evening! Floral, bready, and aromatic--avoids the beefiness of some pilsner/lager hybrids... smooth and crisp--no doubt sessionable--with the late life of a 90+ MPH fastball... refreshing and soft, like a pillow on the tongue and teeth... the can's label evokes the beer's taste profile--floral, airy, with the woodiness associated with Northern Brewer and the snappy ping of Saaz... though my can says 5.5% ABV and this page says 4.5%, my mouth says this was worth the relatively low price tag from Liquor Factory... as much the epitome of a pilsner/lager combo, with the added late spiciness that piques the interest beyond simple session fodder... clean and rewarding, this flirts with greatness but sits just under that ethereal air...

16oz. can into a Carton Boat Beer glass.

Nose has an aggressive hop bite. Clean with a slight touch of sweetness and mellow, soft tartness. Beer opens crisp. Pine, grass and an aggressive hop bitterness balanced by a mellow foamy sweetness. More pine and resiny bitterness on the finish. Solid and simple. Body is light with moderate carbonation. Sharp on the palate and goes down clean. Lingering hop bite on the finish.

I don't come across this style of beer very often but for what it is, its pretty enjoyable. Crisp, clean and refreshing with a noticeable but not overwhelming hop bite.

Had a can at Astoria Bier & Cheese. Doughy aroma, crisp grapefruit finish. Wonderfully clean and delicious. On the hoppier side of the style, but a lovely change of pace from Pilsner Urquell.

Comes in a clear straw color, very bubbly, with a huge fluffy white head. The retention is near perfect, and lacing is copious.
The aroma is very grassy and floral with fresh green herbs. Lots of khale and green pepper and clover. Behind it is a big bready backbone of slightly toasty white bread with a just tangible honey sweetness.
The taste follows the nose pretty closely. Upfront is mostly clover and sweet green pepper with some lettuce. It quickly transitions to a toasted white bread backbone with a touch of honey, before a final kiss of khale/spinach bitterness. Finishes lightly dry and is quite clean and crisp.
The mouthfeel is medium-light. Very carbonated, and it moves very quickly on the palate. Finishes a little dry and clean, and quite crisp.
Overall, a very solid pilsner. Worth buying for any fan of the pilsner style.

Poured into a pilsener glass.
The appearance was a transparent golden bronzed yellow color with a slight carbonation seen rising to fill a quarter finger's worth of white foamy head. Barely any lace, but was there seemed to slide on into the beer.
The aroma had a nice blend of sweet grassy hops, an ample amount of hop spice, sweet clingy biscuit-like malts and an enduring quality of lemon sweetness.
The flavor seemed to blend most of it together, leaning somewhat to the sweet side and then developing a keen spicy embrace as it warmed. Light biscuit/white bready sweet soothing aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied, perhaps just a touch closer to the lighter side. What a wonderful sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good, non-distracting as some of the hop spicy harshness hit on the back of my tongue.
Overall, very nice as a pilsener, almost seemed like a blend to me - between German and Czech as it seemed to smell more like a German one but tasted more like a Czech one. Still, I'd have again, whatever pilsener style it's supposed to be.

This one pours a very clear and light yellow, with a small head, and a good amount of lacing.

This smells like light grassy hops, some minerality, and pilsner malt.

All around this is quite light- very tasty- but exceedingly light. There's not a ton of flavor, but it's definitely crisp and clean, with light herbal and grassy hops, slight fruitiness, and not much malt character.

This is super light, a little thin, but crisp, clean, and very drinkable.

This is a good American attempt at the style, but nothing earth shattering.

A: slightly hazy golden straw color with a vibrant 1 finger frothy white head

S: lemongrass, grains, some grass, and sweet malt

T: sweet malts, grains, lemongrass, a touch of noble hops, and some earthy hops. A touch of bitterness at the end.

M: light mouthfeel with mild carbonation

O: an easy drinking Pilsner here. A touch of hops in here that lens just a bit of sweetness. Perhaps a touch too much hops

Golden straw in color, with a frothy 2-finger head and a slight haze. Notes of grass and lightly toasted malts on the nose. Light and inviting, with hints of grass, lemon zest, and bright malts in the mouth. Smooth, easy mouthfeel. A great Pilsner that helps illustrate the potential of the style

A: Pours a clear medium to dark golden yellow in color with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint bronze colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy bright white head that reduces to a large patch of mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready malts with slightly less than moderate aromas of spicy + grassy hops. Light aromas of lager yeast.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of bready malts with a really light amount of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of spicy + grassy hops which impart a slightly heavier than light amounts of bitterness which lingers slightly and a light flavor of lager yeast.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: I enjoyed the combination of aromas + flavors from both the German and Czech Pilsner styles. Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a nice crisp mouthfeel.
