Very Good
MayaMaya
Notes: Inspired by the founder’s daughter, and just like her, truly a one of a kind. A uniquely dryhopped Belgian Golden Ale with a subtle sweetness and a lot of mischievous tones. Don't be disarmed by her easy going nature, she packs quite a punch.

A: Cloudy orange-yellow in color. Forms a ridiculously large fluffy white head that requires me to wait 10 minutes before I can even taste the beer (and let me just say having to wait to drink a beer because the head is so big is a pet-peeve of mine). Moderate lacing.

S: Aroma is a pleasing blend of Belgian yeastiness (spice and phenols), alcohol, green, grassy hops and some light citrus notes.

T: Taste is likewise pleasant. Light malts. Light sweetness. Citrus. Some light spice notes and a touch of yeast. A bit of alcohol on the back end.

M: Lighter bodied. Lively carbonation. Mild bitterness.

O: A better than average Belgian Pale Ale. Leans towards a more American approach with heavier hopping and restrained yeastiness.

Appearance: Golden slight amber color. Very light, bubbly head on the pour. Random lacing left behind at each level. Below average active carbonation in the glass while drinking.

Smell: The front is a subtle yet present floral fruit aroma. Good base of belgian yeast which adds some accents of cloves and bananas. The hops not only provide some fruit accents but dry, rustic, and herbal tones as well. Much more hop forward then I expected but very pleasant. As the beer warmed up the hop tones subsided slightly and the belgian yeast was much more present.

Taste: The front is a mix of yeast tones and some herbal hops. Not nearly as hop dominate as the aroma. Cloves, lefty greens, herbal spices, tangerines, and grapefruit are the biggest players. The finish is the lingering flavors from the body slowly fading. Mixture of bitterness and yeast feeling left behind on the palate.

Mouthfeel: The bitterness is medium, yeast texture medium, fruitiness is alright. Everything is pretty average here nothing outstanding.

Overall: Great first offering from a new Chicago brewery. This beer has some nice depth with the hop tones and is very drinkable. Will certainly be trying more offerings from Une Annee

On tap at ParkSide 23 in Brookfield, WI. Never heard of this brewery until tonight.
Pours to a golden amber appearance with a two finger head. Smells of Belgian yeast, herbal funk, citrus and bready malt. Quite complex on the palate with sweet malt, spruce-like citrus tinged pine, mixed savory herbs and Belgian yeast. Hops are present on the finish but there's almost no bitterness from them. Creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation. I must admit this beer is very unique tasting - I can not think of another beer that tastes like it which is a good thing. Worth seeking out.

Too fruity for me, but still pretty interesting.

A bit astringent for my taste. Also very, very carbonated.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, batch # M151. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light banana, coriander, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/pine hops, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, light banana, coriander, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, light pine, light banana, coriander, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/pine hops, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian IPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/pine hops, and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
