Batch #21

Voluminous foam with clumpy foam sticking to the sides. Foam color is a light tan, body is a reddish brown. Surface texture is soap sudsy.

Aroma doesn't really expand past basic closed notes of yeast and grain. Swirling at room temp brings out fleeting Belgian yeast esters.

Taste is supple and grainy with fruity pear overtones, peppery, lingering phenolic clove and bitter pear cores. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Blood orange? Too subtle. The "premiere" version was better I thought.

Appearance: The most carbonated brew I've ever poured. Quickly produced a head of four plus fingers. Poured straight from the fridge in a very non-aggressive fashion. Maybe my bottle was over carbonated because I have never seen anything like this. Gradually settled but still massively present throughout. The color of the actual beer is a murky red/brown color.

Smell: Bitter amber, caramel malt tones with plenty of hop accents. Kind of an oaky, soapy cover that throws itself over this aroma. Yeast accents come off with a thick bouquet of spices and prairie grass. Amber malt with plenty of caramel and molasses wins out in the end though.

Taste: That kind of soapy, mossy mask casts itself over the front. Some caramel and bitter hop tones worth their way through on the body. Lingering molasses and medium hop fruitiness lingers throughout. Finish is some bready, dough yeast tones.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is bright, no accents really stand out more then anything else on the palate.

Overall: Like the idea but the execution isn't great. The belgian tones just don't mesh that well with the amber and hops. The mouthfeel just needs to be cleaner. Not a bad brew but I'd hold off til they really figure out this recipe.

An opaque deep amber with a ton of foamy ice cream float style head. Smells malty sweet with grassy and herbal hop notes, slight oxidation. The flavor is a bit strange but delicious. Sweet up front.. Almost getting a raspberry flavor.. Bready, slightly toasted grains, subtle bitterness/oxidation comparable to coca cola. Medium body with high carbonation. This was well worth taking a risk on. I'm honestly shocked this isn't a fantome beer.. Nice Belgian profile with a lot of complex American style malts. Excellent beer.

L- pours an amber red with a big foamy head. Does have some lacing
S- not a lot happening here other than a malty fruity smell.
T- a unique malty with fruity undertone. I think I am tasting cherries. Has a bitter hoppy taste as well. The Belgian inspiration is obvious here.
Feel- quite smooth with some bite on the back end.
O- I like it! A great unique beer. I am loving the brewers starting to combine the Belgian Weiss with other types.
