Une Annee specializes in Wilds and, being shy, I tend not to try wilds. So I'm still getting to know Une Annee and its saisons. Austere is not so with its spicing, hops and peppery. While spices are strong, they are not excessive. For the future, Une Annee might consider which foods its saisons go with. Austere was too spicy and peppery for garlicky, buttery foods.
I would have Austere again. A good value. A well-balanced saison with the right foods.

Hadn't heard of this brewery before today. A hand-capped 750ml bottle. Tasted 21 Feb 2015.
Pours pale wheat yellow, clear from the top of the bottle, hazy from the bottom. Head is fluffy white and eruptive, forcing a slow pour and a long wait to drink the beer. It's pretty, but I'm annoyed, as I want to taste this, not watch the bubbles pop one by one.
Smell is bright and clean, floral and fruity. Has the flower-blossom nectar character that I love, and it blends well with a light spicy citrus. Yum.
Taste is crisp, grainy, and powerfully floral. It's much less complex than the smell, and that overpowering flowery taste is not totally working for me. It's quite good, but needs some tuning (certain elements up, others down).
Feel is light and definitely over-carbonated, as expected from the appearance. It almost works, as the fizzy buzz complements the flavors, but it's just too much.
A very nice saison. Outstanding smell. Clean, crisp, and fairly well balanced (except for the floral flavors).
