I tried the Root Down at the "Brew At The Bridge" beerfest in Oswego, IL. The beer poures a nice almost opaque dark with ecru head that laced nicely. The Porter was brewed with...I think its called anise....or black licorice. There definitely was some in the smell and taste. The mouthfeel was lighter in body, which I did not like and would prefer a bit more. Overall it was ok....brewer hit his mark and it is worth a try.

This is a pleasing porter, bringing together smoky malts and peat with a anise, spice back end. The nose is coffee, bakers chocolate and a hint of chicory. A really good porter, that has a fantastic dark brown appearance and coffee nose.
