look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.25

Poured from 12oz can into a pint glass.

Appearance: rich, chocolatey brown hue with plenty of haze. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam which isn't sticking around too long. The body is just about perfect, though.

Smell: decent, run-of-the-mill porter aroma. Sweet with a bit of roastiness and a small amount of vegetal character. Not too bad.

Taste: a bit heavy on the roastiness for me, but basically not bad. Flavor rounds out with a little sweet creaminess and a roasty bitter finish. It starts off a bit rough, but works itself out in the end.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a decent creaminess.

Overall: this porter isn't precisely to my taste, but it isn't objectively bad. One bone to pick is that the harsh roasty bitterness at the end kind of builds on the palate in a bad way, which does detriment drinkability a little bit.

Pours minimal head on a black with brown edges body.
The aroma is roasted malt with coffee. Bold and nice.
The taste is roasted malt and chocolate. Balanced and good.
The texture is smooth and creamy with low to moderate carbonation.
Delicious and solid porter.

RB

Picked up tonight at the COOP... Didn't pay attention to the price... poured into my HotD goblet.. Good light brown head.. decent retention and still pretty good lacing.

The nose is milk chocolate balanced by dark maltiness/almost coffee notes.. there seems to be some background caramel that binds all the aromas together.. very well done.

Flavor is rich and sorta milky.. great chocolate notes combine with roasty maltiness and a background sweetness to make for a very drinkable and approachable porter... the finish is sorta lingering nuttiness..

The body is a light/medium with a sorta light carbonation that accentuated the drinkability of this one. Quaffable for sure.

I am astonished this is not in the BA database already... I am amazed I haven't entered it in already... I've had this one more than a dozen times easily... I guess this shows the power of CANS.

I will buy it again... I forgot how much I like this beer.

12oz cold can into tulip

Appearance - Dark, dark brown, almost black and hazed over completely. 2 finger head retains nicely and offers up ample lacing. Loads of little white floaties towards the bottom of the glass...odd.

Smell - Roasty, toasty grainy malts, mildly sweet dark fruits, wet hay, quite earthy, is that a bit of barnyard funk I detect? Interesting.

Feel/Taste - Gentle carb but could use more of it, medium body, smooth and creamy. Taste almost follows nose, but lacks that intriguing barnyardy suggestion: roasty and toasty grainy malts mostly, mild dark fruit and cocoa, subdued hops are earthy and herbaceous with a very feint citrus note. Finishes semi-dry with a little perceptible bitterness.

Overall - A pretty good porter. I was a little let down with the taste after the intriguing nose, which I'm sure had some wet hay/barnyard action going on. Also, while the load of little white floaties all over the place didn't bother me, it seemed a bit out of place, and makes for an ugly beer for whatever that's worth (not much in my book).

Price Paid : $1.44
Pours dark brown with cherry strikes through the body. Beige-almond head, 2 fingers. Lace is great.

Smells of fresh roast coffee. Trailing behind it is faint cocoa and raisin.

Figgy, sour/sweet, slightly dirty, with raisin, coffee grounds, and a touch of vanilla.

Semi dry from the start, with a moderate carbonation, parch throughout, ending dryly on the tongue.

It's interesting, though not groundbreaking. Glad I bought two, but three would have been too many.
