Aroma is strong toffee, dark malts and mild spices/scotch. The flavor is caramel/toffee, dark malts, mild fruit and a mix of coffee/chocolate and acidity in the finish. Kind of like a mix of a brown ale and an imperial stout, probably the best O'Fallon beer I've had.

Pours black and thick with a small dark khaki head. Very thin layer of the head remains once it dissipates. Just a bit a lacing.

Nose it quite bitter. Dark roasted malt and bitter bakers chocolate. Dark caramel and molasses. Ash and smoke to go with black licorice.

Taste isn't quite as bitter as the nose. Chocolatey but semi sweet instead of bitter. Caramel, roasted malt, and licorice. Hints of an underlying burnt character but complements rather than distracts.

Thick, creamy mouth feel. Moderate carbonation. Just a bit of a syrupy feel. Lots of lingering dark chocolate.

Solid stout with big dark flavors. Made me think a bit of Bells Expedition Stout.

S: somw bitter sweet chocolate, but nothing powerful
T: whoa that is overly sweet. So sweet it's face cringing.
F: fairly thick, not very smooth though

Black as night with no light penetration. There's a fingernail of brown around the majority of the rim and about half of the top. Aroma is a bit faint but what is there is plum, roasted barley, and leather. It starts sweet with plum, leather, and then the piney hops kick in. The finish is sweet with plum and raisins. The mouth is a bit warm with alcohol and slightly chewy and viscous.

Poured out an opaque, jet black color with no head to speak. Smelled of roasted malt, toffee and burnt molasses. Slight floral hop presence. Leads off with roasty malt, chocolate, molasses and toffee. Subtle bitterness. It was smooth and medium bodied.

Pours a black color. 1/3 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of strong sweet malt, alcohol, slight yeast, slight roasted malt, hops, and a hint of pine. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong sweet malt, alcohol, slight yeast, slight roasted malt, hops, hint of wood, hint of pine, and a hint of syrup. Overall, good appearance, good aroma, great body, and great blend.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. Rich cocoa, lightly smoky aroma, tar, and roast malt.

Flavor is fairly sweet, chocolatey, with a touch of acidic malt and a charred finish.

(review written about an hour after drinking) 8oz pour from the tap at the O’Fallon Brewery Pumpkin Festival. Pours jet black, with a nice light-brown head. Had a nice aroma, typical for an imperial stout, and yet very fresh. Great, heavy mouth-feel, and great flavor: roasted notes, chocolate, booze.

This is one of the best IS I have had. I just had a 12oz can of Ten Fidy last night, and I would say this beer was better, but perhaps that is because this beer was much fresher.

Had this on tap aat Instant Karmha in Jolin MO

Nice smokey & char notes. smooth.

ABV well hidden. I hope to see this in bottle format to give it a more measured review. Well above average for these guys!

They have done a great job contracting Black Mesa's beers from here, so I know it is in them
