Pours an effervescent copper/orange with one finger of cream colored head. Poor head retention & average lacing

S: Pumpkin pie spices

T: Cinnamon, dryness, mace & all-spice, with a touch of gingersnap up front. A little more gingersnap, cinnamon, a touch of woody hops & a little vanilla, as this warms. Slight astringent bitterness in the finish that detracts, more cinnamon & a touch of ginger snap sweetness

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

ABV is well hidden, a good take on the style, if you are into spice heavy Pumpkin beers you will probably like this. I would've like more Pumpkin characteristics & body, but still better than most of this ilk; so take it or leave it. I'll stick with Schlafly's or one of Southern Tier's offerings if I'm I'm feeling pumpkin in the future...

(Review from 11/25/2015)

22oz bomber; no bottling date (for various reasons, I am assuming this is freshly brewed); poured into a snifter. Pours a dark orange, with a cream colored head; nice lacing. Aroma is complex and impressive: spice, pumpkin, alcohol, and perhaps vanilla. Taste is of fruit and pumpkin, with a bit of alcohol. (EDIT: I also get cinnamon up front, with some spice and heat on the finish) Mouth-feel is light, but incredibly creamy and smooth.

This beer smells somewhat like spiced pumpkin bread, and the taste is amazingly smooth and easy to drink. I am not a big fan of flavored or fruity beers, but this stuff is what I would think a pumpkin beer ideally should be: a dessert beer that invokes the pleasantness of fall. This is one of my top pumpkin-flavored beers.

Edit winter 2016: David and I did a mini vertical with the 2015 and the 2016 and both were good for different reasons. Compared with a year old Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, this Imperial Pumpkin Ale was not too much better. For bang for my buck, the Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is better.
