Pours black with an 8mm khaki head. Head retention is so-so, with no lacing. Rich biscuit, toasted, and roasted malts, mixed in with a whiff of smoke in the aroma. The flavor profile has a layer of smoke throughout, with other notes of roasted and toasted malts. It tastes and feels dark with a wonderful smoke layer mixed in at a good balance. Mouth feel has a medium consistency and is otherwise velvety. Overall, it's a wonderful beer. The smoke is kept at a nice level. It is reminiscent of walking into a quality barbecue joint.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Dark color with tan head. Smell of smokey malt with notes of chocolate and caramel. Taste the chocolate and roasted malts with smoke at end during the finish. Taste like eating smoked meats or the char on a BBQ pork steak (it's an Stl thing). Really enjoyable beer that always taste better than it sounds.

a: black in color, not much light penetrating. a little brown towards the bottom of the glass. nice, rich 2-3 finger tan rocky head that seems to be leaving nice lacing

s: milk chocolate, roasted malts, a hint of brown sugar, and caramel. the smoke is there at the end. it is subtle, but makes for a nice exit to the aroma. a nice mixture of campfire smoke and smoked meat

t: roasted malt and subtle smoke upfront, followed by a nice charred wood flavor (tastes much more pleasant than it sounds). behind that is some caramel sweetness and chocolate. nice mixture of flavors in here, and I like that it leads with smoke, but doesn't overpower all the way through

m: lighter side of medium. carbonation is on the lower side for a porter, but it works well with the smokey flavors

o: this was a random pickup that i didn't research before i bought, and i'm quite happy with the purchase. even if you're not a huge fan of smoke in beers, i think you will be able to appreciate it. mixed with the roasted malts and sweet characteristics in here it is smooth and subtle

DATE TASTED: January 30, 2016... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint.. OCCASION: continuing to show the boys The Desolation of Smaug--time for a smoked porter to match that of a smoking drake!... APPEARANCE: pours a fizzy, pitch black body that supports a brief one-finger brown head, which ultimately fades into a crescent... as a porter usually approximates... AROMA: a robust roastedness engages with vegetable, ham, bacon and egg... the peatiness is present too, as much of the aroma suggests a log fire and a dead pig--not the worst thing, but not tremendously alluring either... PALATE: medium-bodied, rather smooth...and a bit thin for what is described as a "bigger" beer... the aftertaste lingers, while it goes down with an acute oiliness... of average experience... TASTE: as expected, the bacon is thick and the profile is thin... some peat and smoke, but not overwhelming... hints of alcohol also show up oddly at 6% ABV... vegetable--onion, garlic and cola make for a reasonable finish... OVERALL: the first O'Fallon I have had--go with a medal winner--is a good introduction to the brand... the experience is mostly a pleasant one, with little outside the genre to explain or deride...

Black in color with no penetration to light. There's a fingernail of beige resting on top. Aroma of lightly smoked dark malt is very enticing. I can taste that dark smoked malt and it reminds me somewhat of delicious lapsang souchong tea. This is medium bodied and lightly chewy.

Dark brown but clear body, no lasting head. Strong aromas of peat smoke, but plenty of chocolate/caramel porter notes, too. Flavor has strong smoke/earthy peat as well, faint tang of barbecue, but it sometimes takes a back seat to the rest of the delicious porter roasted malt and chocolate/caramel, which gives it a slight sweetness. I'm happy either way each sip goes. Finishes with smoke and roasted ashy malt. Medium body, pretty smooth without veering into flat-land.
This is essentially a well-rounded porter with a healthy amount of smoke imparted as well, just like some might add coffee or other, more standard, flavors. They make the flavors blend perfectly and didn't take any shortcuts with fake smoke malts. Look beyond the twist off cap- this is a world class brew.

Black cola color. Light smell, vague smoked meat. Thin slightly carbonated porter with smoked brisket taste. Definite smoked meat as opposed to campfire. Stronger at first, but not overpowering. Said it's a sipper, but I enjoyed a few in a session.

Look: Pours a dark brown with a creamy mocha head.
Aroma: Smoky dark chocolate and hints of vanilla.
Taste: Smoky, meaty, slightly creamy.
Feel: Medium/thin, medium high carbonation.
Overall: If you like smoked beers, specifically porters of any kind, this shouldn't disappoint. At the same time, it doesn't impress.

So deliciously deep and smoky, reminiscent of really good brisket. It's nearly black in color and rich and thick in the mouth with a heavenly scent. It's definitely one of the more smoke forward beers in this style, so I don't see this pleasing everyone. However if you love barbeque and smoked meats, this is a real treat. By far one of the better beers I've ever tasted, it's a shame it's so hard for me to find.
