A: Very dark brown on the edge of black with a moderate cream colored head. It was served in a sniffer glass due to limited qualities.

S: Not a typical porter smell. Started sweet that transitioned to a mix of earthy, almost fresh cut hay or alfalfa smell that then finished slightly sweet again. Nice complex nose but not what one would typically think of for a porter (at lease to my understanding)

T: Smooth, heavy roasted malt that continues through the hind palate with a nice light smoke ending. Did not taste the peat that was reported to be part to be used in some part of the roasted grain bill.

M: Clean, medium mouthfeel that finishes slightly dry.

O: NIce variation of a porter. I would like to see what would happen with an increased smoked peat component, which may either make the brew exceptional, or potentially sink it.

On tap poured in pint glass at the brew pub. Dark brown, white head, good lacing. Taste was average at best. Very lightly smoked. Beer was light and watery. Honestly, it was disappointing. Not their best effort in my opinion.

LOOK: Ontap into a pint glass. Pours a dark brown color with amber hues. A white head forms and leaves a bit of lace.

SMELL: Dark, roasted malts and a bit of smoke. A wisp of herb quickly dashed by vanilla and burnt toast.

TASTE: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee upfront giving way to a more meaty smoke by the finish. Some vanilla and cream give way to ashy charcoal.

FEEL: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

OVERALL: A nice smokey porter. Quite enjoyable and quaffable.

I recently had the Puff Puff Porter at an exquisite Mediterranean restaurant in Pittsburgh. I liked it very much, but you’ve got to like smokey.

Look: Dark brown almost black with a two inch slightly off-white creamy head.

Aroma: smoke and roasted malts

Taste: roasted malts, chocolate and vanilla, and it was Smokey.

Feel: It was medium bodied with medium carbonation, silky, and fairly easy drinking.
