Notes: IPA #2 is the second in the series of Collective Project India Pale Ales. This cloudy, “New England” style IPA is beautifully balanced with tropical, citrus and piney heavy hops: Mosaic, Simcoe and Waimea. This is a small batch brew that will only be around for a limited time.

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into a snifter. The beer pours a mostly clear gold color with some suspended sediment visible in the glass. There are several fine streams of carbonation rising to the surface and a frothy bleached white head of 1 cm foams up. The head recedes slowly to a sturdy surface layer and leaves windowpane lattice on the sides of my glass as it fades.
The aroma is very fruity with pineapple and mango but I also a little grapefruit and some pine. There is a bit of biscuity caramel buried in the nose as well. Pretty complex but not incredibly assertive nose.
First sip reveals a silky smooth textured beer with mild spacious carbonation. The beer floats across my palate but does leave a bit of a sweet coating. The flavor is briefly biscuity malt and then goes to fruit notes with pineapple and some peach. It then rolls to a bit of pine sap and finishes with a bit of rindy bitterness that lingers a bit. The finish is also fairly dry and also leaves some sweet tropical fruit on my palate.
Flavor is diverse and fairly bold, and also completely hides the 7% on this beer.
I like this IPA and would recommend it to others!

Can: Poured a bright hazy yellow color ale with a huge white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tropical fruit with nice floral hops undertones is quite enjoyable. Taste is a great mix between some tropical fruits notes with some citrusy notes and nice floral hops undertones with some residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Superb IPA and a beer that should make it to their regular line-up.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 3 2017 and served slightly chilled.

Pours cloudy golden-blonde, giving rise to one finger of foamy, bone white-coloured head that dissipates over the course of the next five minutes or so. An attractive swath of lacing is produced as it recedes, with a decent-sized collar of foam remaining in place afterwards. Citrus is probably the most striking element of the nose, with mandarin orange and grapefruit coming through clearly, along with peach and tropical fruits such as mango and passion fruit. Hints of bubble gum and dank pine resin are also in there, but overall it's the fruity notes which seem to dominate the aroma.

A beauty of an IPA. The pale malt backbone is more of a subtle background presence, with grainy wheat and oat sweetness underlying a dizzying array of taste bud-electrifying hop flavours. Citrusy notes of tangerine and grapefruit take the lead, with notes of apricot, peach and pineapple in tow. There's also mango and passion fruit mid-sip, with the earthy, piney aspects of the Simcoe hops beginning to rear their head more towards the back end. Finishes fruity and somewhat resiny, but the bitterness is surprisingly restrained for something quoted at 80 IBUs. Medium in body, with relatively low carbonation and a soft, smooth, somewhat slick texture. Barely any sign of the 7.1%, making this a bit more drinkable than it probably should be.

Final Grade: 4.32, an A grade. Simply put, IPA No. 2 is one of the best hoppy, strong pale ales you can find at the LCBO these days. I'm not sure if I enjoyed this more than their Ransack the Universe - but I do love that beer, so the fact that there's any question whatsoever obviously means that I also think very highly of this one. Yet another winner from Collective Arts - not a surprise, as these guys have grown into one of the most reliable and consistently solid breweries in the province (especially in the increasingly-crowded IPA category). Any true hophead would be foolish not to grab a few cans of this while they're still fresh.

It pours golden amber with a bit of haze. The head that sits on top is bright white and dense. The wheat and oats really plus up its retention.

Ripe, fleshy mango comes with a pithy citrus twang. Green, sticky resin is close behind. The more I smell, the more lemon I get. IPA No. 2 has got it all so far.

It's more piney, more green, and more resiny than the nose leads you to believe. Pineapple is the dominant fruit with some green mango mixed in. There's still plenty of pithy citrus - grapefruit, and mandarin orange especially. Its bitterness is pine like and sappy. There's still some sharpness to it as it lingers past the finish. At 7.1% and 80 IBU's, I didn't expect anything less.

Its weight lies between medium and full while its feel is more creamy than slick. The finish is dry with a green bitterness. I can't taste the alcohol but I can definitely feel it.

Another bright and bold, fruit forward IPA from Collective Arts and I'm not complaining. It's a heavy hitter in comparison to IPA No. 1. It's a bit too bitter for me to think of it as a New England IPA but it's a damn good IPA overall. I love the use and experimentation with hop varieties in this series so far. Looking forward to No. 3!

Moderate pour yields a beautiful 3/4 inch white head over a golden straw body with very nice lacing. Wonderful nose of tropical fruit, citrus, and pine. Taste follows exactly with a very nice feel and overall this IPA is smooth, even, and very well made. Cheers to those guys up in Hamilton, Ontario!

473ml can poured into tulip 16/6/17

A hazed orange liquid, pours foamy, takes some effort getting it in the glass and the massive foam just sits there, still foam at the bottom, lots of spider web lace with a couple chunks stuck to the side

S lots of tropical punch, mango, kiwi, papaya, pineapple, and citrus, vitamin C chewable's, heaps of pine, a total hop runaway but it works and its massive

T citrus rind comes out heavy, even more pine, much of the tropical flesh is gone, some booze, still good but a step back from the nose

M medium weight but very foamy, needs some swirls of the glass to calm it down, oily and bitter, a little heat for 7%

O Smells amazing but didn't follow through on that world class level but still great stuff all around and I'll be drinking more of it while I can

I loved this stuff but there's a little room for improvement, over-carbonated and a some booze popping up here and there. A couple minor tweaks and this could be a world beater, Collective Arts is killing it!! price point and quality keep on rolling.....

Super fruity, loads of mango and pineapple on both the nose and tongue. Buttery caramel base comes through nicely with a bitter citrus finish. Well crafted and definitely recommended.

Poured into a 16 oz Weyerbacher tulip glass, not sure when it was canned, because the numbers are smudged. Pours a very attractive slightly hazy orange and leaves behind big thick wisps of lace, after a 2 inch white head settles.

Smell is apricot, earthy herbal hops, tangerine, guava, pine resin, and a nice hit of grapefruit.

Taste follows apricot, herbal, so darn balanced and really just a little piney grapefruit in the finish.

Mouthfeel is a touch larger than medium, mild carbonation not complaining, not dry, and excellent drinkability.

Overall this is a beer that is just flat out tasty, doesn't blow you a way, but really tastes great. Well done.
