Life in the CloudsLife in the Clouds
Notes: Life in the Clouds is our flagship New England style IPA. After experimenting with the Collective Seasonal HAZY IPA we dialed in the Simcoe and Mosaic hops and malt balance to optimize this juicy IPA’s pleasantly fruit forward (think citrus and melon) taste and aroma. In keeping with the nouveau NEIPA tradition, Life in the Clouds is an unfiltered beer, neither overly-sweet nor bitter, with a pillowy mouth feel.

Straw-colored and not so much hazy or cloudy as similar to a hefeweizen, etc. Smell is faint, some banana and wheat, light citrus. Taste has surprising bitterness up front, grapefruit, grass, kind of astringent. Feel is kind of flat, carbonation dissipates and gives to a watery feel. Disappointed in this. Have enjoyed previous CABs.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet. Well, it used to be called Hazy. Then they decided to make it a regular and called it this. Yeah it's good. Beautiful hop juicy aroma and the flavour follows fully with waves of citrus led by sweet grapefruit. Any bitterness is hidden between hop and malt backup and there is no hint of any adjunct flavours. Well crafted, and worthy of an excellent score - the only thing is their IPA#5 has even better flavour and a smoother creamier mouthfeel, so it turns out this isn't even the best beer you can get right now at CA. That said, it may be as of this date as #5 is sadly recently retired.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. A brewery purchase for just over $3.50 CDN per can. Canned January 25, 2018.

Appearance - Rather hazy with a pale golden color and hues or bronze. Capped with a finger plus of frothy white head. Good head retention and plenty of spidery lacing. Not near as juice-like as IPA No.5 for reference but quite hazy.

Smell - Tropical with pineapple and melon being the stars and hints of orange and grapefruit in behind. A touch of papaya too.

Taste - Middling sweetness with the melon, papaya and grapefruit combo shining through. A little more bitter at the end as orange gets involved. Not a ton of complexity other than a nice array of tropical flavors,

Mouthfeel - Pretty smooth, easy drinking, finish dry, but a little bit too sticky in between. Carbonation is middling and body is a little heavier than expected, not quite as light as GLB's Octopus Wants to Fight as a comparison (both are just above 6% ABV but full flavored IPA's).

Overall - A very well done IPA, that fits nicely in Collective Arts lineup, bringing something a little different to the table, but certainly a very good (if not quite great) offering. Would probably rather have Ransack the Universe for extended sessions (even with the higher ABV).

Update April 28, 2018. I realize I been drinking quite a bit of this recently and enjoying the hell out of it. I think I've underrated the taste, feel and overall by a quarter point at least given how flavourful and easy to drink this is. Still don't know if it's better than Ransack, but it's really close.

A-Colour is a hazy yellow with a nice Whitehead the dissipated quickly. Lacing is excellent.
S- aroma is more on the dank side , with citrus notes as well.
M-Carbonation is medium to low and beautifully executed as it does not interfere with the hot profile. Mouthfeel is on the lower end but still lends itself to a nice medium body
T-This beer starts off with a subtle sweetness that is really nicely balanced with the hop bitterness provided as advertised by mosaic in Simcoe.
O-Absolutely wonderful beer. Highly recommended.

Hazy, fruity and citrusy. Bitter in a good way. Beautiful head and thick lacing that sticks on the glass. A great beer that went well with steak at the Keg
