I visited this store on the 8th of December. The store seem like a hole in the wall. But it boast a very nice selection of home brewing needs. There are kits for brewing different styles of beer. I like the fact that they had an array of yeasts and malts available. The had some old and new book about home brewing. They also had array of wine making supplies, there where kits to make the wine also. I felt that the store was cluttered and bit chaotic. There where some employees at a table sorting something out like malt, yeast, or extracts, I would have like to seen them use gloves. If I was going to make my own beer I would not want someones hands on my goods. The staff there didn't ask if I need help and to me seemed kinda harsh. The store overall has a nice array of beer and wine making supplies but I think the employees need to show a more friendly side.

The beernut has been my local HBS for three years now and started me on my brewing path. Armed with a very knowledgeable staff. All home brew, some do wine and mead as well.

It has been my experience if they dont have it they can order it, if they cant order it they can point you to a place that does.

some mead last year and they sent me to a bee keeping place for cheaper fresh honey. They could have charged me and kept my cash but with a five gallon batch they helped me save some money.

I have had nothing but friendly service and good sound advice on my brewing.

I dont know why some folks complain about the pricing it isnt far off from anyone else. Often it is cheaper than having to pay shipping online too.

Jamie and the staff will get you taken care of.

This is one of the best places in SLC to get home brewing supplies. The people are vary knowledgeable and always willing to help you out. The selection of grains is fairly good, and if they are out of something they will let you know exactly what you should replace it with without compromising the end product. The prices are vary reasonable, especially considering the political climate of Salt Lake. When you are ready to start home brewing, this is the place to go. I highly recommend this store. The store smells good too.

Visited this store on Feb. 27th looking to get some advice on a beer I wanted to make. It was fairly busy and the staff was all pretty hooked up. I waited patiently browsing through the grains and hops and eventually did get some help.

The guy that helped me seemed quite knowledgeable, but admitted to not having brewed in a while. He was also clearly stoned out of his mind, which was frustrating when repeating my questions and having to refocus him. That was frustrating, but he did help steer me in the right direction on grain choices.

The ingredients I picked up were nothing fancy, some specialty grains, some DME and LME and a few different hops. The grain selection was fantastic, they had plenty of everything and I was impressed here. The hop selection was a little on the thin side. The standard hops were well stocked, but the hops I was looking for weren't available (columbus, summit, chinook) and that was disappointing. I didn't purchase any yeast but the selection was nice.

Overall the costs were in line with what I would pay for ordering things online.

I will visit again when in salt lake, nice shop, just wish the help wouldve been a little more attentive.

Last visit was in November, 06 - brewing a Pumpkin Spiced Ale for the holidays.
I learned to homebrew during my stay in SLC. My brother in law deemed me the gopher and apprentice - he showed me the ropes and this is the store that we visited for our supplies. The first thing that stands out is the service and knowedge for brewing.
It's a rather small store, pretty good selection. I can't really remember them not having something in stock that we've needed in
the past.
Overall, a good little homebrew shop serving the SLC area.

This is a top notch brew store staffed by some friendly folks who are quick and efficient and more than willing to jar a little with the out of town guy who's come in to explore.

Shop is clean, well stocked with everything clearly marked. A good variety of malts, extracts and hops kept fresh.

Highly recommended if you're trying to get a good potent beer that the folks at the Bayou don't have. Also, these guys are owned by the folks behind the Bayou so it's actually possible to get a free membership to the Bayou if you're a good egg. :)

This place rocks! The people working there are really cool and know what their talking about, they are alwalys willing to help. They have a good selection of kits and equipment for everyone from the novice to the experienced brewer. Selection of hops is quite good. They have both pellet and whole hops. Plenty of malt to choose from, extract or all-grain. You can buy a whole bag of your base malts for a discounted price and keep it there and use it as you go. They have a frequent brewer card, after x amount of brews the next one is free. Great place I get all my home brewing goods from the Beer Nut.
