Appearance: Pours very dark brown, with thin head that quicly fades to a collar; spotty lacing
Smell: Roasted malt aromatics with a smoked meat character and a hint of soy sauce; just a touch of the Bourbon barrel in the aroma
Taste: Very roasty, with a smoked meat and touch of soy sauce; through the middle there is just a touch of Bourbon that rounds out the profile; the finish has a roasty bitterness
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: I look for some dark fruit flavor in a Russian Imperial Stout and, while the Bourbon adds a nice aspect (though the beer could spend more time in the barrel), it tastes a bit over-roasted to my palate

Pours opaque black, thin layer of tan head is retained. Smells of milk chocolate, Kahlua, cinnamon, honey. Taste is a strong hit or sweet chocolate up front, milky notes follow. Not a ton of cinnamon on the pallate but it's balanced well with the other flavors. Mouth feel is nicely carbed but thinner. I think it works for this brew. Tasty beer! Would love definitely buy another bottle if I run into it

A- Jet black with a bit of cocoa brown head... Looks like a stout
S- Black olive/umami on the nose right up front. Maybe a bit of roasty malt.
T- Sweet sugary wort up front, then changes to bitter and dry coffee malt flavors. A bit of nutty/woody flavor in there too (but not barrel wood... lumber wood). Not picking up any whiskey or barrel aged character to speak of other than smokey, charcoal.
F- Thickish. Good body.
O- I had heard very good things about this $12 bomber. Not sure if it fell off fast or my palette is off, but I find this to be just OK.

Falls just short of a finger of extremely dark brown foam, even surface and pretty good retention for what’s there to begin with, the lacing looks like those fireworks which cascade down like a willow tree. The liquid is a pure black without even a hint of brown or orange at the edges, impassively opaque. The nose does have a strong roast to it, however, the milk, lactose, chocolate, brown sugar to molasses elements douse the bite, the booziness is actually circumspect given the possibilities, licorice and bacon fat, not particularly fruity but at times there’s something like fruit cake going on. Full-bodied, smooth in a velvety fashion and here too the booziness handled well. German chocolate cake, coconut flakes, carob, vanilla bean, Brazil nuts, croissant dough, and more licorice to cola bean. The roast elevates and scrubs the roof of your mouth like smoke rising. The sweetness of the flavors tends to mask the full impact of the barrel aging yet the overall mouth texture is dry, noticeably at the end. It never reaches back to throw the 100 MPH heat although it kind of makes you expect it will. But in no way a disappointment, just sort of mixed messages.

Bottled February 2017, 11.5% on this edition. Pours a solid, oily black, with dark brown fluffy head that shrinks down to a ring around the snifter's edge. Dark, roasted malts with significant bitterness and hop character, bittersweet dark chocolate that pushes the boundaries of good taste but doesn't cross over into being too acrid. Undercurrents of smoked malts, vinous tannins, and anise, a bit of iodine on the palate (not as a flaw) that gives the impression of peat smoke. Full-bodied and smooth on mouthfeel, as expected from the viscous appearance. Culminates in a nice, dry finish. Runs counter to what seems to be fashionable these days, but well executed.
