I've been following these peeps since they started construction on their brewery about a year or two ago.

Served in a Game of Thrones snifter.

A: Saturated orange color with no passing light and only about a 1/4 finger head.

S: Barnyard funk with an overwhelming hop character. Lots of citrus and sort of a pineapple-fresh hop harvest disposition.

T: So, so good. Man, this might be one of the best saisons I've tried in the past couple of years. The fresh hop, farm-based disposition worked wonders here.

M: Thick and silky, with a great carbonation bill. Slight lacing left on the glass.

O: Simply awesome. Can't wait to try more from these guys.

mega thanks to Mopps for gifting this mega want for me at a tasting. enjoyed from a LCCB snifter.

a - pours a transparent, yet rich ambery orangey brownish with a gorgous finger of head that didn't budge for a while. really classy and crisp looking...reminds me of ommegang. spotty lacing on the glass as i sipped the beer.

s - soft banana and bubblegum with a hint of hops and grass. belgian sugar with a pinch of soft clove.

t - wow. extremely impressive and well balanced. all the flavors are to style and non-offensive...everything seems in the right place. the beer opens up with soft sweet bubblegum and belgian sugar than a bit of earthy grassiness dances on the palette to remind you it is a saison and not a belgian pale (although this one really tows the line in my opinion...) and then the rollercoaster takes a big dip of belgian candied sweetness on the finish with a follow-up tail of some hoppy bitterness and then circles back to banana bubblegum sugar.

m - has that really great water supply kind of body...very organic vibe. perhaps it is just mental since i watched them build the farm and brewery on instagram, but i do get that really refreshing water base...the kind that you find with hill farmstead.

o - overall this is definitely a saison to check out, but mostly because it isn't very saisony. this could easily pass for a (kick ass) belgian pale ale. it is just clean, crisp and very well balanced (while being on the sweeter side of the balanced spectrum). reminiscent of hennepin. paint me impressed, this was worth tracking down.

750mL bottle, picked up at Total Wine in Alexandria, VA. Poured into an Alewerks snifter...keeping it Virginia.

A: The body is a slightly hazy orange-brown with a rocky head that dimities in 2-3 minutes to a thin film on the surface. Small amount of lacing on the glass.

S: Belgian yeasts and sugary scent, layered with banana, bubblegum, and a grassy scent. Some spiciness, but not dominant.

T: Balanced but very complex flavor profile, tasted better than expected from the aroma. Starts out with the expected sweetness form the aroma. Bubblegum flavors up front, the sugars come out right behind the bubblegum, and then transition to a clear and crisp earthy note. The Belgian sugar flavor diminishes as the beer finished with a clear bitterness, and slightly hoppy flavor.

M: The body is wonderfully smooth, with a crisp feeling. Not too oily, not to dry, and a balanced carbonation to the body.

O: This is not as much like a saison as I expected. Seems to fall down between the saison and Belgian pale ale styles. But, that is not an issue, this beer is a very crisp, and presents a subtle complexity that makes it enjoyable to the end.

My first review. Thought I might start off with something new and local. Here, a style I usually enjoy, farmhouse saison has a feeling of summer but is never out of season. Nice choice for their debut year round brew. Lickinghole Creek eh? Dirty sounding name, but it's a real freaking creek out in that neck of the woods. No cork and cage here. That's nice for us home brewing types, usually don't see 750's that can accept normal caps. Pours a beautiful sunny gold color, exactly how a farmhouse saison should look. Smells nice, hops dominate the aroma; sweet wheat, complex hop aromas. Taste is right on with the smell, hits the palate with that laid back wheat feeling, but smacks you in the face with a sweet bitterness on the swallow. It's a nice back and forth as you getting deeper into the glass. Very enjoyable.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this initial offering. The farmhouse style is the original Belgian IPA imo, so I think this is a perfect example of that. If reviewed upon style, I would go as high as 4.25/5; reviewing overall, I'd go more toward 4/5. Very good indeed, highly recommended. I wouldn't hesitate to session this beer, preferably on tap.
