With the soul of amber ale, but with the heart of imperial strength- this hop dominant ale showcases a wide array of classic hop flavors that are shed in a whole new light.
A deep and dark honey-amber hue layers in the glass, blowing off peppery aromas that are laced with leaf, stem, citrus and herb for a culinary artist's dream. Its creamy froth coats the early palate with toasted caramel sweetness, soon followed with pecan, biscuit and honey.
As the sweetness slowly recedes, the hop onslaught ensues. First of citrus pith and rind- lemon, orange and grapefruit lead the way. Trailing sweetness leaves behind the piquant bitterness of peanut skins, brittle and charred toast. But after that, the seeping bitterness of hops deliver the citrus, pine and herbal tandem that capture the essence of truly bitter beer.
Despite its imperial stature and the residual sweetness that the strength would suggest, the medium-bodied beer is picked apart with those deeply resinous hop spurs and relegates the sweetness to a far back seat. Mild warmth tucks nicely behind the gripping bitterness as the drying ale finishes with the evocation of softly toasted pine needle, cone and citrus peel.
